Trialmin Review: NecromancerAnne

NecromancerAnne has now been in the .txt as a Trial Admin for roughly two months.

Please use this thread as public review; it's encouraged for players to comment on how well/badly the trial admin has done and whether or not they think the trial admin should be made a full admin, if they should be removed from the .txt or if their promotion should be delayed.

She's an excellent, strict admin. I consider they should be promoted soon.

While I’m not so much a fan of the strict part (course its never affected me), they’re an awesome admin that does fun mini events and shit. Promote.

A very active admin that puts in plenty of time during hours we typically don't have much coverage. I think some unfairly judge them based on the high frequency of appeals but they rarely take into account the sheer amount of tickets the admin handles when basically solo during lesser covered hours. Even where mistakes do occur the vast majority of their work is fine and we can only be human; the appeals process exists for this reason. I don't see any reason to hold them back and upcoming headmins shouldn't have any issue offering guidance as NecromancerAnne already communicates plenty with the Adminbus when uncertain. I'd say promote.

They're going to take that "gets the most admin successful admin complaints" merit badge from me one day.

Getting a lot of admin complaints but as I've been reading them it seems like a lot of dunking on shitters.
Second coming of Saegrimr?

Completely inflexible in their approach. Refuses to consider the possibility that their interpretation of a situation could possibly be incorrect. More than happy to show leniency to malicious rule breakers, while equally happy to punish players for honest mistakes. Runs fun events.

If there's an admin rank that gives them the tools necessary to set up admin events while not allowing them near any disciplinary tools, I'd recommend that. If not, no amount of good events are worth the environment they create with their poor disciplinary etiquette. Events-only or demote.

Extremely strict approach to the rules that prioritizes the letter of law over intent.

Is also willing to ban people for unjustified reasons, then retroactively justify that reasoning later on, which is absolutely not how we should be administrating the server.

The previous headmin team was mostly fine with this, so I can only hope they'll be brought into line until then.

There's potential, but it's being wasted on a ban quota. I'd extend until they have some experience in the less toxic atmosphere of our new leaders.

Yea I gotta say sticky's interpretation is pretty clouded and full of crap.
Sticky has pretty much mostly just read appeals or complaints against Anne and then shitposted at them in the admin channels. They call out Anne for bad bans or bad etiquette but on more than a few occasions never explained himself further even when prompted to by headmins. He's constantly antagonistic and rude as fuck towards Anne. I genuinely don't think sticky has ever tried to help Anne improve as an admin and I only ever saw them try to tear them down as much as possible. Kinda weird from someone who is a senior admin.

Anne mostly adminned on sybil, not even the same server as sticky. I don't know if she encountered him much during regular adminning but I only ever saw Anne doing a good job. They ran events that players liked, and they really really tried during those events. They were polite in pms and handled them well. They made a mistake or two but who doesn't as trialmin, nothing to restrict their promotion over and nothing like sticky tries to paint it.

Somehow trying to paint this also like it's a headmin culture issue is kinda deluded as well. Anne has enough experience.
Anne should be promoted.

Excellent admin with an encyclopedic knowledge of the game that translates into their work as an admin, definitely promote them as soon as possible.

Nothing I saw in his summary was inaccurate, apart from possibly the jab at the outgoing headmin team.

Funny, I seem to remember that ban/note not being overturned and the subsequent complaint not valid.

Surely someone making bad bans that were reviewed by headmins woulda been lifted right

I told Sticky that he should fuck off from this thread after he threatened to leave bad remarks over a petty dispute in #admin-chatter.
I stand by what I said. Sticky's comments are to be regarded as worthless and will not be entertained by me in our decision.

Was willing to tell me I was wrong with conviction and confidence in a public discussion, never did I feel any hostility while debating with them.

Turns out, I was wrong in my ruling. They're unafraid to speak up to anyone and will enforce their beliefs.

This is the kind of admin the team needs.

As with any kind of administration, the decision that are made will affect other people and should be surgically shaved down to a concise narrative. We will need different opinions that are strong to find the best course of action in all of our practices.

Please promote.

Month banned me from anteg with no warning / notes about it. oof.

I ranted on discord, said angry stuff that people generally don't drop easily. Despite this, Necromancer listened to all of my points and found a very effective compromise. she gave me a second chance and month banned me from assistant instead (the only role I used to ghost), and said without it you should have no problem not antag rolling.

This surprised the hell out of me, and gave me the chance to learn new jobs and ways to contribute to the round while still having the chance to be the super villain I like to be. I've had a variety of issues I've ahelped about since then and Necromancer was professional and quick to help every time.

Strong recommend

I'm totally happy to accept my interpretation as wrong given the amount of good feedback they're getting.

If I was right I'd imagine there would be a lot more grumpy players who felt hard done by.

I don't think your assessment was wrong, but I posted an actual admin complaint instead of peanut-posting here. My view lines up with yours: a lot of strict legalistic interpretation of the validhunting rules with very little emphasis on what the rules are intended to mean. In my case, she let off a murderous AI player that killed and hid a centcom officer and myself- the centcom officer with justification due to an event I didn't see personally, but going from flashing me unconscious to crowbaring and spacing me with absolutely no aggressive action or escalation whatsoever.

The explanation seems to be: "You're valid for not playing a human, since the AI can murder nonhumans at all times." But that's not exactly the admin precedent I'd like to see for future silicon rulings.

NecromancerAnne has passed their review and we're promoting them onto full Game Admin!
