Would you like to see progression in SS13?

Hello, fellow spessmen.

Let's cut it right to the nail. The reason why I am starting this is because I find it rather depressing that a scientist spends his whole shift working on research levels only to lose it all after aliens show up. So the thing is: Would you like to see stuff being carried over from round to round? So far, all we carry on is memories. Would you like to see it change? If yes, character-wise or station-wise?
Station Progession:
Research levels could be carried over, to an extent. Perhaps viruses and DNA research could live on, as well as medicine in sleepers and cryo tubes. Construction too, perhaps, would last. Maybe cameras and lights in maintenance would be more resilient to shuttle calls. Perhaps mechs and/or materials would also survive shuttle calls.
Causing too much structural damage (bombs, Lord Singuloth) would completely reset the station. Also, bits of the research and construction would be lost every time a new shift starts, so the crew would have to work to keep the station good. Rule of thumb would be: the more structural damage to the station, the more is lost by the station.

Character Progression:
I have not thought much about that. I would like to see suggestions as to how individual characters could progress, if they could.

No:
Who needs coders busy with progression? Give us new Honk Mechs.
So yeah. Read, vote, discuss. I will be back in a bit to see what you guys think. Also, I would like if you could stay away from discussing coding specifics for now (that is impossible to code/will take too much work, can't be done). Let's focus on whether you guys want it or not.

If research levels carry over, what does Science have to do the next shift?

A lot of the game is balanced around things resetting properly between rounds

Ephemeral nature of the game and the things you do is good.

Having 'character progression' will lead to there being an actual meta wherein people grind jobs and routines to get the optimal shit to the point where they are numerically superior to other people

Having the half-intact remains of past shift's glories seems silly. I personally prefer the clean slate.

The game is built around the idea of a typical round lasting between 30 minutes to an hour, research and all, having research carry over from one round to another would throw the game's balance out the window (even if it can take someone 5 minutes to max out research if they know what they are doing).

However, I think some kind of system that records how many rounds your character has consecutively survived would be a neat idea.

It sounds like a fun idea, but you KNOW there will be a sect of hypercompetative players who are going to murder anyone who tries to break into their r-walled escape pod they built as assistant because muh stats

We can't do anything like this when some fucks manage to cultivate elitism around mere post counts.

each shift they go on a new station, so station progression is dumb.

I like /vg/'s greentext for research. We need 'food research' for the chef and 'plant research' for hydro tbqh.
