Is crossbreeding broken?

The xenobiologist suffers when he wastes 44 slimes only to get nothing (40 10 one colored slimes, and 4 other slimes)
"The mutated core shudders, and collapses into a puddle, unable to maintain its form."
Is this error code?

Which crossbreed was this? Cause I haven't had any trouble recently with crossbreeds, unless its a super recent change

Everyone I try to use.
The three I've used so far would be, The Lovecraftian Megaman one and the love potion one. I've also used the reproductive grey slime one.
The love potion and the mega-man one don't work, and just disappear on me.
Send help.
