Starbound
Starbound (Terraria, in space)
First of all, I was sure there used to be an starbound thread somewhere, but my incompetence made me unable to find it, so I made this one.
For the ones that already know the game, they are going to release, finally, a huge ass update, next week on the unstable branch they are going to drop the winter update (Upbeat Giraffe), wich expands the game to playable levels, with quests, dungeons, balance, and alternatives to only advancing with combat (ie, you can now be a peaceful space farmer), and a really long list of things.
For those that don't know it, Starbound it's a 2D mix of castlevania and minecraft, themed in space, each player has it's own ship and can colonize planets, ranzack them out of stuff and build literal stairways to heavens in them, it's a sandbox game with a progression that ends in figthing a galactus level tentacle monster, the game is pretty dinamic, fun, and while it doesn't have the level of detail SS13 has, it's surprisingly well detailed, with a food and heat system included, and I believe you need an space helmet for visiting moons, and quite a few goodies, like mechs or logic gates wires and automated stuff, it's really extensive, and I can't make it justice with just one post.
Would you guys want to play it with others player here? should we join a server, make our own, guilds, or just sporadic visits to one guy temporal server?

Re: Starbound
please don't even try.
starbound is so far gone. even if there was a hope for it, it isn't worth having yourself.
the devs aren't worth it. the game isn't worth it. it's just not worth it. let dying dogs lie.

They extended the estimated official release to 2014 last I checked? Tiy said he's been working eight hour days on it since last year so it might be good.

The only good thing to come out (not really, they're only publishing it) of chucklefish is Risk of Rain
which is, coincidentally, the only good thing to come out of AGDG
Though I did have good times on the game when we tried to build icestation. Too bad I lost the screenshots ;_; save for one

I'm down to give it another shot when the update drops. I got nothing to lose since I already threw my money at the game.

to be fair that update does look pretty great but i dont think starbound really has any hopes to be good until its actually 100% finished and all their promises come true (LOL)

I feel the same way as most people here - A ton of my friends and I bought the game and got pretty tired of it pretty quick.
But yeah, update looks good. Looking forward to it, even.

Anonymous Gossiper wrote: The Irc channel is open to anyone that can join, I joined just to ask a lot and a LOT of questions, most of them got answered and I asked Metadept for some changes on certain things and he said he liked my ideas. For the most part.
The reason things are slow is because of that move to England. The move caused EIGHT people to quit, including their programmer, Bartwe. Now there's 12 people working on the game, and 2 programmers had to totally redo Bartwes work because he never commented on his code. I think these people are legit trying as best they can, and shit only hit the fan because of Tiy's mistake.
They're all really friendly people and listened to the community on a lot of things, at least in the Nightly...I hope the worst of the waiting is over since the long long wait was mainly from the two programmers basically redoing the game from scratch. As for lasers and laser swords, I dunno. I asked them last night about racials but they said they removed it for a few reasons. In the nightly, getting oxygen protection is REALLY early game so that makes it not so useful on Hylotl, lantern stick is now an early thing so it would be useless on Novakid past that point. They said Florans would heal in sunlight and humans would have more inventory slots but were removed because at the time of that stuff, they thought it would interfere with PvP but they totally rebalanced the game anyway. They said they might include racials to the races armor at some point but after this update.
And I just heard them say on irc that the Deadline for the unstable is the 19th of this month, they want to make it there before the holidays. Metadept claims to have been working monday through sunday just programming and fixing things so IMO a break probably would be good.
Ps. - Metadept hinted that Uranium and plutonium will eventually be ingredients in high tier explosives for mining and killing things.

Re: Starbound
Yeah I was playing it earlier and it seems like the overall performance of the game has gotten WORSE since we started playing it at first.
Lots of random shitty slowdown for no reason. Wandering near a USMC underground bunker causes all kinds of bullshit to happen. Enemies jumping around like assholes frequently freeze and then teleport somewhere they shouldn't be.
On the plus side I found a folded steel chair I can beat things with WWE style so that's cool.
