The best thing about nondubs is probably that it forces me to actually watch the anime instead of playing vidya on a different screen. Which is a silly reason.

Sometimes intentionally annoying voices are just far more tolerable in foreign languages though. Excel Saga and Disgaea, I'm looking at you.
When Laharl rants in Japanese, he sounds like an overconfident, arbitrary princeling - yet still kind of a badass.
When he speaks English, he sounds like a stupid spoiled 12 year old. Which is also appropriate for the situation, but injures mah headcanon.

But yeah there's nothing wrong with enjoying translated vidya, it's just so easy to jump on.

I've never watched anime ever. Unless you count Pokemon a few times in middle school. What would be a good anime to start with if you wanted to really get someone hooked and show them your favorite anime?

Clannad is always the starter. It's universally claimed as the best anime with the best feels (tomoyo best girl prove me wrong shitters)
Watch cowboy bepop because it's pretty damn good while you're at it and then go watch Tora Dora because >feels.

Some people may also tell you to go watch sister fister 9000 but they're dumb that wasn't that good of an anime and it was cliche as fuck.

Oh yeah i forgot if you want some pseudo-anime go watch anything by miyazaki (spirited away that kinda shit) it's usually a good gateway for actual proper anime. Never ever watch shit like Naruto or Bleach or Fairy Tale that shits got more filler than a pastry and it's boring.

I've never seen Clannad... Cowboy Bebop was my first anime (along with Initial D but it's shiiiiit) and I think it makes a good transition. Trigun too. Even Lupin the Third, really. Each episode is watchable on its own, and don't rely much on being familiar with anime/Japan tropes.

I would not start people out on Serial Experiments Lain, FLCL or Code Geass, but they're great. So's Attack on Titan, but I'm not sure if Full Metal Alchemist is worth it for the length (kinda like Homestuck).

Oh and I've shown friends the first three episodes of Gurenn Lagaan because they're wonderful, and then it gets reaaaally slow from then on. Still decent, but very front-loaded. Though there are good parts later on:
