IMO the perfect opening track. It’s rare that I hear a song that so perfectly lets you know exactly what the album you’re listening to is going to be like. It doesn’t outshine any of the songs on the album, nor is it outshined by them and forgotten. Also gives ode in its name/lyrics to his change in style from lightning in a bottle to something more refined and deliberate, which is a nice detail.

But yeah I like atrocity exhibition more(side note: ever listen to its namesake?), I just had this song come on in shuffle today and really fucked with it. Tbf though I think this is his best put together album yet, just maybe not as good musically as his others.

I used to listen to Arcade Fire a lot (while playing this usually). I have had this song stuck in my head for days now for some reason. I haven't listened to it in a long time. I'm also a big fan of that semen song. I think I've said this before though. As a Christian who wanted to marry underage Anne Frank, I think Jeff Magnum, PI had a problem with female sexuality. The idea of someone else having gotten their semen on a woman who presently belonged to him was too disgusting of an image for him to bear. He needed a pure virgin waifu like that dead Jewish girl from the Holocaust to make sure it would never happen again. Maybe he's better now. I don't know.

This is my favourite Arcade Fire song I think, because it's about the melancholy of remembering one's childhood and the despair at knowing you can never return to that warm, bright place even though it was pretty shit at the time. Sometimes you feel the way you felt then in dreams and realise that things were actually pretty good then in comparison. That last part isn't in the song I just made it up.

This is an interesting take, you're probably right.

I've never really tried to analyze the album or put the feelings it gives me into words, probably because I'm afraid it'll lose it's magic that way. Even if I tried though I feel as if a genuine understanding of the album would elude me because the perspective and feeling of it is such a familiar yet ultimately incredibly foreign thing to me.

really? for me it's the opposite. full deathcore is a hit or miss for me, but his one has a great balance of highs and lows and sings and growl, it's just fucking great, I love the chorus and how it makes the whole track flow, and that pleasant outro solo

definitely still an amazing song, but i still remember the feeling i got from listening to the breakdown of Demolisher for the first time and no modern metal song has replicated it; im sure it will grow on me pretty quickly though

i feel the same about deathcore, modern deathcore is alright but compared to classic early to late 2000s deathcore its nowhere near as good
