i dont know if theres a chance for a ocean to spawn anywhere, but inflatable boats are useful for crossing rivers instead of dieing instantly because you cant swim with 150 pounds of gear and armor

The game already has a ton of shit in it. It doesn't need longer item lists with more shit.
I don't need a dozen more varieties of vehicle turret, fifty new melee weapons, etc.

If it actually added like...biomes and oceans and shit with new vehicles like aircraft and watercraft that would be something. Those are features.

I've been trying to get heli crash victim to work, and I think I will, but every single time I've tried it there's either been minefields tiles away from the crash, anthill swarms, mi-gos chasing me down and killing me, or me bleeding out from the wreckage.

After squatting outside of a town in a derelict RV i finally managed to get it to run again. Replaced a couple wheels and installed a couple busted up solar panels i scrounged off of a wreck. I also now have quite the collection of guns, plus a compact suppressor for my USP 9mm. Getting some real mileage out of this combat knife too, it kicks ass. Time to become a rambling man of the apocalypse in my new home on wheels

I went full autism mode scavenging parts to build up a superbike. I found a military transport truck made out of THE GOOD STUFF and stripped a couple chunks to come up with this bad boy:

It rides on two 21" armored wheels and uses a large electric motor for its powerplant.
It has two removable storage batteries, which amounts to a HUGE range on a full charge.
I have a charging station setup at my home base so I can ride in and just swap out the batteries as well.
Two trunks for storage. The one in the front is for quality-of-life items and the one in the back is for stolen goodies while out running around. 1400 total volume may not seem like much compared to your RV's but the bike is able to get to a spot and back much faster. If I see a building in the middle of a city I want to go to, I can haul ass through the city right to it. No stopping because of a bunch of wrecks and having to go on foot.

The forward trunk contains a change of tires, a jack, etc. etc. stuff you might need if shit goes bad. It also has a recharging station upgrade and I put a couple items with rechargable batteries in there so they can feed off the bike's power supply. Key items like a welder, a mess kit, and a water purifier basically replicate all the functions of a kitchen and a vehicle welder without actually taking up any space on the bike's frame. There's a steel jerrycan full of purified water in there too for drinks on the go if I'm out longer than my normal carrying food supply will last. Bedroll and sleeping bag. Still looking for a tent.

The whole frame is heavy duty so collisions hardly do any damage. The front section has spiked plating to plow through people, the rest of the bike is plated with military ceramic. I managed to forage some upgraded panels off some random super car on the highway, then reinforced them. Has three of those to help charge faster while parked.

In the winter this could be bad for some but I have bionics to help offset the temperature so I can handle it. I'm not sure how I would dress up to ride this thing around in the dead of winter if I didn't. Survivor winter gear alone probably wouldn't cut it.

to survive in cold, i suggest making a thermal electric suit, doesn't encumber much so you can wear it under your winter gear and be toasty. i manage to plunge icelabs in regular clothes with one on.

Sleeping in an actual bed with blankets equalizes your temperature too. Just go grab a bunch of random clothes and toss them on your bed pile so you can be as warm as possible.

Yeah, I was impressed when I had found out that blankets and pillows on a bed actually help you sleep better.

Pillows I think give you a flat bonus to your sleep score and clothing items give a positive based on their warmth (up to a maximum, at which point it stops accumulating). This is why pillows are just a generic "other" item but different kinds of blankets are considered clothes (though you can also wrap yourself up in them when running around if you don't have sufficient cold-weather gear, the emergency blanket in the evac shelter lockers is actually really good for this since you can also pack it up into a smaller item when not wearing it).

In the beginning of the game if you want to go full nomad you can dig makeshift shelters and then just stuff a ton of random clothes you forage for in there and it's like big ol' nest.

ANYWHO

Now that I've got Akira's motorcycle I'm building up a fort of my own using a ton of constructions and shit. I've never gotten this far in the game, usually just sticking with the nomad life. How do you guys usually progress in phases? It seems like my gameplay style is like

1) Night raid foraging on the city
2) Daytime attacks on the city once my skills have built up some
3) Limited range foraging with a salvaged vehicle
4) Road trip in an RV, not tied down anywhere
5) Establish mega fort

Sleep is handled pretty oddly in Cataclysm. It's a value that slowly decreases over the day, and if it's greater than 1, you can sleep. Being over a bed increases it by 5, being over a makeshift bed increases it by 4, and being over a bedroll increases it by 3. Floors increase it by 1. Turfs that have a movement cost like solid ground or anything outside add whatever the movement cost of their terrain is to your sleepiness so sleeping outside is probably pretty difficult unless you've been awake for days.

You can convert a bunch of items to run off of UPS power that normally wouldn't, and then use a bionic that lets items draw power from you instead of the UPS. Congrats you now have a bionic chainsaw that is FUELED BY YOU STALKING YOUR ENEMIES.

I'm adding drive by wire controls to my bike so I can control that shit via remote terminal (and hopefully later with my brain via CBM). The weakest link on it is my flesh and blood body. If I add a collector to it I'll be able to just run everyone and everything while vacuuming up anything they drop. Fucking ridiculous.

My game is getting to the point where my i7 is lagging whenever I go to sleep, craft, or read books basically anytime I fast forward the game goes apeshit on my CPU. I think it might be the dozens of NPC's running around? I have no clue.

Could be the NPCs are attracting fuckhueg hordes of zombies and are attacking/getting attacked by them in your reality bubble. It should clear up once either the NPCs or the zombies die.

In other news something is exploding in my neighbourhood so it's either a survivor with a grenade launcher who has died or it's a tank drone because I heard lots of gunfire too.

Try trading with NPCs if you go near htem. I found my chainsaw from the starting NPC's inventory.

Though it does make sense. The chainsaw has the highest raw damage of any melee weapon in the game.

I found a gunsmithing workshop in a gunshop that I may or may not have collapsed the roof of trying ot break into looking for guns. Sadly the only thing in there was a bunch of ammo cases and magazines but if I ever get the mind to it I can go use the tools there to print off a fuckload of ammo.

The only good guns are shotguns. They hit like a freight train. You could invest a ton of time and ammo getting good with another gun, but I've found that just packing 10-15 throwing knives beats out every other gun I've ever used in any playthrough. It probably helps that I've mutated and bionic'ed my way up to super strength but these things are doing around 40 damage a hit, can be picked back up after being thrown, don't require reloading, and are fast as fuck to throw.

When standing there waiting for someone to get next to me for melee I can just hammer the (t)hrow key (I assigned the knives the t key in my inventory as well so it's just double-tap t to kill shit) to become Dio Brando. They have a really good amount of range/accuracy aswell (again, the high str and dex probably helps this a lot) and my throwing skill isn't even that high (maybe 6 or so?).

I guess guns would be better if you are playing a low str character and basically can't use any other weapons in the game but that's completely retarded for so many reasons. STR dictates your carry weight and HP as well, making it a dump stat is an exercise in futility.

Shotguns are good yes, but they're also the loudest gun in the game and if I fire them near my base I'll have 9 gorillion zombies coming after me. So until I've gotten more ammo than there are stars in the sky for my shotgun I can't really utilize it effectively. In other news the same gunsmithing workshop had an assload of gun mods so I have a glock .40 straight out of /k/ and I modded the shit out of an M4 too.

Yeah it's definitely some bullshit going on with NPC's. I opened up the debug menu and looked at what's going on. There are 19 NPC's wandering around nearby and none of them can decide what they want to do so they keep stopping to figure out a plan.

I used the "Kill all NPC's" command and got a performance uptick, but I don't think it actually got them all. I need to genocide these fuckers. At least the zombie hordes don't cause all this fucking lag.

Fun fact if you don't deal the finishing blow to an NPC you don't feel guilty about killing an innocent.

I hacked a person with my machete so hard they flew backwards into a car and the impact killed them.

I play with NPCs off because they either turn hostile and try to kill you right as you spawn while they spawn with fusion blaster rifles, or decide not to kill you, but spawn in hordes and proceed to destroy every edible creature within 60 miles with their guns while attracting Bad Things.

if they didn't spawn so much and weren't so ARtificially Dumb as Fuck, I might put them on so I could cannibalize them for the morale penalty so I can be a sad person.

I usually never play with them because they're buggy and don't add shit to the game but stupid fucking fetch quests and other repetitive shit.

I have, no shit, walked to the same patch of woods to kill a Jabberwocky...I think four times now? That's all anyone ever wants me to do. Kill a Jabberwocky or their zombified mom.

I just fucked an entire city full of zombies by just running a lap around the streets to draw them all in, then standing in the middle of the horde and flexing my sick kung fu moves and beating them all to death with my fists. My one leg got nibbled enough to go light green. Big fucking deal.

Having been there to watch all of this, Genius McFuckface the NPC runs up to me, orders me to drop my weapon, and tries to rob me with a Beretta. He gets one shot at me, which pangs off my helmet, before I use the railgun biotic to fire my machete into him and which sends him flying backwards into a car and pulps his body into a ton of human meat chunks and shit gear I don't want. Thankfully he has 150 some odd rounds of 9mm on him for some fucking reason though, so at least that interaction had some value to me? Other times it's just some random dude in his boxer shorts with a hockey stick screaming at me to stop riding my motorcycle around so he can "rob" me, and by "rob" I mean get his head punched off by me.

The game seems empty without NPC's?

Found a new structure type i have never seen before. It is called a military outpost, but it is roughly the size of a mansion, is surrounded by a big minefield and is home to roughly 20 hostile NPCs with the job of Thug or Raider, most in military gear. I am systematically eradicating the raider scum with careful use of my modded up MP5 and a classic M1014 shotgun but it is fucking rough going, keep nearly getting killed. Gonna sneak in there in the early morning and see if i can kill a bunch more and make off with some loot. Kinda wanna see if i can take this base for myself, but i have a feeling that all the unsilenced gunfire is gonna bring some hordes

EDIT: FUCKING NOPE!

Something or someone saw me in the darkness and hit me with a spray of autofire so massive it had to have been several people with automatics. crawled the fuck out of there with one / left on my torso, they did not seem to follow. Might have been bots or drones, but nothing i could see was giving off light

Factions. They're pretty rare but they exist. The Old Guard is one of them and they have forest bases full of friendly dudes with lots of guns and they give you shit. They have representatives at evac centers, you can find evac centers in the evac houses survivors spawn in by using the terminal.

I think you're fighting the slaver faction currently.

Oh i know about factions, i have completed the Refugee Center questlines a few times now. But last time i played the only raider/slaver bases you could find were little wooden palisade fortresses in the wilderness with like 10ish people and few guns. These fuckers are way better equipped and organized, and there is a lot more of them
