Losing to a blob because people keep getting stuck outside/inside maintenance is silly.
No, it's not silly. It's poor management from heads and AI who are supposed to be competent leaders and managers and make sure everything is done to eliminate the threat. Besides, all it takes is ";AI declare emergency open maint law 2" and bam. I don't think I've ever seen a round where there is enough people for blob and neither heads nor AI are present.
Oldman Robustin wrote:You could also accelerate the warning by up to 30 seconds so the blob doesn't have a guaranteed free node before the crew even know it exists, which means you'll probably have 2-3 nodes+resource before the crew even finds you and 4-5 before people start welding your ass.
Do nodes produce resources?

It would be really easy to abuse the blob being unable to expand into space. Besides the above, toxins bombing would happen every blob round and that's just so fun for everyone around.

Being crew during Blobround is the most boring thing I can think of regarding SS13. Your swimming in against the waves coming at you. Making Blob expand fully manual with increased point regeneration would make this more fun as I´ve never liked the auto-expand mechanic of Blob (and Alien Weeds for that matter).

In a cooperative mode I feel fully confident the detractors are causing some portion of their own problem.

That'd make playing as the blob really hard though, you'd have to be everywhere at the same time to expand properly. Nodes let you sort of "claim" an area, and if there's anybody at all in that area you don't want the node to be right at the front.

Blob is a pretty fun mode, it's a change of pace from the standard antags and gets people to work togheter for once.

I don't like blob and I'm the guy who gets the riot suits, the lasers, even the rechargers, and do everything I can to feed a constant supply of fire down on it.

But it's really fun. You see blob and immediately sound an alarm. Soon hallways are filled with people. You see warden dragging a locker of weapons and few officers dragging recharges. You take your trusty wrench and secure them. Cargo brought their autolathe and starts printing out welders. You grab one, get a gas mask and start welding. There's an assistant running from spore, HoS takes it down with precise laser fire. Clumsy roboticist covered in oil and with a welding helmet drags medibots to you. Just in time, too, you help the wounded to get to it. MDs are standing by with medkits. You see an engineer fly past the window, launching an assault from space with flamethrowers and welders. You weld, weld and weld, slowly advancing. Finally you're close to the node, armed guys concentrate fire and - boom! - you take it down. A moment of relaxation while you just clean up leftover blob with the welder. You notice that engineers finally set up emitters from the left, the blob is desperately trying to beeline to destroy them, but you are quicker and you take down the line, leaving blob with wasted resourses. And then in the end, when the blob is shrinking to its core, desperately trying to survive under fire from four directions, welders, lasers, emitters, BAM, it's down. Victory. The station will survive another day. You feel like a hero. You are a hero.

Alternatively you watch your friends drown in a sea of green slime, you weep for them... and then they stand up with their head covered in orange goop and clamber towards you to end your life as well.

Well yeah, but only if you're losing

I imagine telesciencing team with welders on top of the core would still be OP as fuck. Admittedly you can put core in another node now, so there's that.
