my brother in christ after literally witnessing the last 2 years of Hippie along with its decline and death and now the decline of /tg/ I have some pretty solid fucking ideas of what makes a server popular

1. The Players and Community
>have a hit popular tv show with tons of main characters that everyone loves
>all the main characters get killed off by producers official reason states that they were problematic
>producers continue with the next season
>show now has 1/3 the amount of people watching it

how could this have happened?????
there is also a 2 and 3 but i've wasted enough of my day thinking about your post

ive noticed terry and bagil are completely shut down now
id love to know what the official reason for THAT is tbh
like i would think it would be really noticeable at this point that its being done on purpose lol
okay man this is gonna sound crazy but all those spacemen on your computer? those are being controlled by real people behind a screen. "problematic main characters" you mean the guys who stalked and harassed multiple people? who intended to cause real life harm? to real people? over a space game? just making sure you know that when it says 70 players it means 70 real people playing a videogame on a server right. 2 years of hippy, thats cute. ive been on tgstation on and off for 8 years

Terry is down because the server ran out of disk space.
terry is down because of hardware failure, the HDDs didn't run out of space they died.

it will take a while to get it back up

I don't agree with my board warning, and its differential treatment really when you can use that to force me to disengage with the conversation short of writing out a entire administrative complaint thread/nut perspective without outlying your own boundaries as you have done with goofball, which I think his actually was well worded and helped subvert the tension. Im going to walk away from this conversation thread now calmly and watch for the next few days.

Holy shit we did it folks we’re down to actual genuine conspiracy theories WOOOO pack it up great work same time next week.

In reality, we’re in a big changing-hands time where Scriptis will be our new host. MSO’s taking his leave in almost every part to recover from ten years of hosting, and Godspeed to him.

Terry’s down because a disk exploded or some shit, and MSO has expended his nigh limitless spirit over that ten years and we’re getting on the fix slower than you would like because of the handoff. No worries, though, she’ll be alive and kicking again ASAP.

heres a conspiracy; DrAndre343Halo hates this thread because it isn't one of the flood of emptypost ridden deluge paloozas forewarned by the wise Toronto88 during his gallant rebuke of the reviled saegrimr(whose prose would outshine his sour intentions if not for the triumph of Toronto that day) among others during times of true crisis in yesteryear's hut of good conjecture. So instilled with all good senses of justice was Toronto88, pride of only the honest components of the /tg/station forum and none else, that despite promises from the ranking tyrants of his day to the effect of that which he used to spread these warnings in such taut lexicon would be silenced with extreme prejudice, he prevailed in pinching the proverbial nose of those who would rather the forum for this uniquely abstract sociopolitical metaformation which infests the /tg/station project be instead trodden on for the benefit of their distended ego. His work done, and the nature of a good forum instilled in those who followed, Toronto88 absconded with all the trust in his departure being not the nail in the coffin of /tg/(in reference to /tg/station) but testament to the invariable triumph of those who find agreement in his philosophy. None could hold their head as high with the wind at their back as Toronto88 undoubtedly does today with deserved ease.

obiously terry is down because the mrp felinid headmin ERP metagang is finally enacting the last stage of its multi-year plan to kill terry after finishing off sybil so TG players are forced to play in a sterile HRP no-kill no fun allowed environment

(please ignore how manuel was down for a day or so due to server issues as well that doesn't count)

but yeah this really wasn't the best time for there to be server issues to happen, not that there ever is a good time I suppose

The trouble with the AI generated profile picture is that this concept of the profile picture's origin is too easily comprehended, which robs other forums users the joy of contemplating the origins of the profile picture.

I think we impressed upon them our meaningful complaints, and the only thing left to do is PR a bunch of guns, drugs, etc., undo the shit PRs and let Sybil attempt to heal. A changing of the guard has begun elsewhere.

The PR for deleting the combat shotgun got closed so we're off to quite the chipper start. Sybil wasn't built in a day! It will have to rejuvenate.

Continues to burn how? Seeding efforts have caused a noticeable uptick from like, six player peaks to 20+ and will keep rising if we keep going. Pop attracts pop, and it may not be the Sybil you know best, but changing of the guards are inevitable and if I were you I’d be organizing or taking part in efforts to rebuild instead of doomposting in a forum thread.

Terry being down is also adding some players which meant the other day it hit 50, but I’m not counting that since I’ve got no idea how many will stay if any at all once Terry is back up.

all it takes is announcing to thousands of people AND having the EU servers/other NA servers all down for it to hit the pop it would hit before everyone was off work 2 years ago

that's pretty rough maybe we should add guns and antags back

I did mis-quote, I’m so sorry— but I will personally inquire with the bigshots about the plans for Basil and whether it’s a funding issue or a playercount issue. If it’s the former, maybe we can push it back up, someday— but the latter is kinda tied to the same thing. If we had infinite cash we’d run every server forever.

Still, I’ll ask for ya, and report back on what I hear.

Right, the reason it’s down right now is NOT a funding issue— it’s apparently on the same physical server as Sybil, but as of right now the new host has spoken that we’re planning to keep it to Sybil+Terry (LRP) and Manuel/Campbell (MRP) until such a time as Sybil’s pop is regularly back to where it was last year— probably around the 60-80 ranges, daily, where it’ll be more viable to split the playerbase.

I understand that this answer is not going to be very satisfying, and that Basil being gone likely just means a few Basillites are stopping SS13 entirely while it’s gone, but I can understand the argument and I’m certainly not in control of the servers that are up or down any more than kicking them awake here and there.

Thank you for sticking around, regardless— I do hope you can find a home in exile on one of our other servers, and I hope pop fully recovers so we can put your fave back on the board. I’ll mirror this announcement to the Discord when I get home so it’s around in a more official capacity this time than the period of silence before when Basil went down initially.

I propose a Sybil/Bagil merger, and to rename it Babylon.

It will be a fitting and foreshadowing name for the new LRP server to come.
