Late but, congrats on the TEA clear!

I've been enjoying Dawntrail, know it's been a little divisive in the community but the tuned up content feels nice, and Wuk Lamat is a sweetheart

but good golly goodness fucking gracious does wuk's EN VA seem bad, like dogshit.
i saw THE scene and it actually made my skin crawl it was that horrific
and people hate the character in other languages too, it's like lyse x300 receptionwise.
i aint even played it yet i'm in the middle of my replay on my new guy but holy shit i might switch to JP audio if that's what i get to expect.

I think she's fine. I think a lot of people think her voice is bad because she has an accent. Probably my only actual complaint is that she doesn't yell loud enough in situations where you'd expect her to.

I also like her a fair bit more than Lyse because Lyse felt like they completely reset an existing character and made her an idiot for no reason. Wuk Lamat is kind of a dumbass but she's a sheltered child of the rule of a nation; of course she's ignorant. She gets better throughout the story, though.

I also think judging her based on what others have said about her without even having gotten anywhere in the campaign is probably a bad idea, and if you're planning on going into Dawntrail already disliking her, you're probably not going to enjoy it very much because she's pretty much constantly in the party one way or another. There's also a lot of people who hate her because her VO is trans, so be careful how seriously you take criticism of her.

timestamp is genuinely so bad it should be patched out, same with the SPEEENat the end. like it's indefensibly awful.

even JP dislikes wuk to a heavy degree though, which is nuts. it's not just the VA, it's just ppl hating the character. the english VA being bad just compounds on that.

also the accent is fake according to some of the VA's tweets which just compounds on the cringe factor, it's just another layer hampering the performance and making it harder to come out good.

the writing quality of the expac's also something people are panning in multiple languages; lots of bad pacing, poorly explained stuff, contradictory developments.

it's a major shame because wuk's got lots of character traits that i like, but when my friend described her as "pacifist goku" in terms of personality i started to see the problems.

also lyse was arguably less of a fucking idiot when she took off the mask. yda's whole thing was the airheaded punch girl who only functioned because of her tard wrangler papalymo, but the yda/lyse thing was also pretty damn stupid.

I've heard a lot of positive and a lot of negative about Dawntrail and I enjoyed it a lot. You probably won't. Some shit about it being woke or something, idk.

Anyway has anyone else been having fun? I thought the new dungeons and trials were super good, and while the expansion doesn't get close to Endwalker levels of hype, it's a fun ride that sits somewhere between Stormblood and Heavensward in my tier list.

Loved how they tuned up the content, took the plunge into PF and got 94 Totems on EX1 (4 mounts seen, never won) like a dozen or some odd on EX2 (zero mounts) but that fight is hell, I could do it 100 times and still miss like 1/5 of the mechs

There were some out of place lack of emphasis on the VA stuff, but a big kitty with sad eyes is going to win me over 100% of the time

But yeah while the hype aint on the same level as EW, it's been a bop and looking forward to more!

I think there were some unfortunate decisions as far as voice direction go. A lot of people are going to blame Wuk Lamat's VO for this, but it's not like the voice directors wouldn't just tell her "Okay do it different this time" and do another take.

That's a shame, I think they did pretty good overall, just, yeah some parts where another take or if the director/sound booth could maybe pay attention and make sure that when she's screaming a certain name in a certain scene it sounds like it has the weight it should have, that part stuck out to me as a odd/low point.

That was one hell of a line delivery.

Really curious to see how bad some of these savages are going to be, not in a static and don't REALLY wanna extended limited social energy to join one, but since I got stick-in-the-mud friends to afraid to hurt each others fee fees doing content, I might even say fuck it and take the plunge and PF that too

I get this, being the boomer MMO player I was talking with friends about how MC trash used to be something to consider, like an actual obstacle that needed to be handled, but the Alexander trash now just feels like fodder, another w2w pack before the barrier (I wasn't playing XIV during HW, dunno if it was anything super special)

It really is such an odd moment, because there's at least a few times when she's angry that she sounds great. Oh well. I think she's a good VO, she just needs better direction/more experience.

Very happy to see that the community has been showing her a bunch of love, though. Was kinda worried about that given she's trans. The vast majority of players seem to be cool with her.
