You're not going to get long-range in the jungle, unless you're playing An Lao, which gives you about 250m.
And I fucking love An Lao, not least because I also play pilot a lot.

Maybe not the jungle, but there's a few maps with great sightlines that you can't use because they're technically outside the map

I can fly helicopters fairly well myself. Landing them though. That's an entirely different beast
Landing them in a way that I can walk away from it that is. Making it get on the ground is easy. Making the heli and squad in it survive that is not

Yeah the 'frontline' mechanic is one of the things I've hated about the rising storm games.

My favourite map from RO was that one in summer where one side had to assault some trenches and then capture a building next to a rail line.

Today I learned how to play pointman and use the claymore.
Using it to pop a tunnel plus the squad that just spawned on it is fun.

I'm still torn on grease gun v XM177, though, and I've been told the M2 isn't actually as bad as I've been told.

I played Frozen Synapse 2 for a few hours and was having lots of fun managing the incursions, contracts and investing in other factions so I don't get boned by deployment rng (spawning next to a shotgun is a teamwipe most of the time) but then some bug or whatever broke my savefile and I lost my progress refunding that shit until it's playable, still recomend it though!

CK2 is hilarious. Played through the Leon tutorial and now I’m on my second generation in England. I laugh so much at pretty much everything that happens in this game.

CK2 is hands-down the best story generator game I've ever played

King Robert IV of England died in his chambers under suspicious circumstances, so his plans of legitimizing his Bastard Son never came to fruition, leaving the crown unexpectedly to a young Princess Marthe, the first Queen of England. The old King was a terrible womanizer and held 4 lovers in addition to his wife, and fathered many children. Naturally this meant there were several attempts on Marthe's life.

Everyone hated her. Even her own mother the Queen Mother tried to have her assassinated. The pope excommunicated her while she was afflicted with Typhoid Fever. The lack of a powerful monarch meant a few Dukes of England were able to seize much power themselves and they controlled the Council. England was losing its grip on Ireland and her own demesne was suffering from revolts and plagues so money was tight.

Somehow, 10 years later, the Council is basically a rubber-stamp that passes whatever law she pleases, everyone in the realm is loyal to her (even the ones she imprisoned), and Queen Marthe of England is now known as Empress Marthe the Crusader of Britannia, Hero of the Crusade and was granted southern Hispania by the Pope who excommunicated her earlier. From the worst start of a reign to the best monarch I've ever had. And she's only 26.

My whole line of succession consisted of just my sisters for a long time. I imprisoned a few of them which was why Mother was so pissed off. There’s also quite a few Dukes in my prison as well.

Also I bought the game + DLC when it was on sale for about 100$? I think it goes -75% for the base and -50% for the major DLCs. The cosmetic stuff is very much optional

The plot was sophisticated and I never learned the identity of the plotter. Could have been anyone, he was quite hated as well. Probably a Duke, but there were many enemies in the realm. It doesn't help that since everyone hated him the only loyal Spymaster he could hire was his own mother.

for me mods made the experience several magnitudes better (right up until i completely broke the game). rimworld mods are rich in both simple QoL/UI stuff and new features/balance overhauls, and there's an incredible amount of variety and content to experience. not sure what you mean by "mods being mods," sound a bit handwavey

Killing enemies with combat is the small smooth-brained solution.

Big, wrinkle brains lure their enemies into a long hallway filled with wood at one end and seal them in moments before setting the wood on fire. It's always fun to watch them try to break the granite walls with their bare hands, but it won't help

honestly just get the embrasures mod if you hate killboxes. it gives an actual alternative to base defense that, while powerful, doesn't outright nullify everything in the game like killboxes do.

I do feel like dorf fort lost something when they moved all the good stuff from 'Probably on your site, no matter where you start!' to 'Hope you select the right site on worldgen!'

Had a bout of runescape nostalgia, felt incredibly lucky with drops for the first week, even made 500k at a single party and then a member comes up to me and gifts me a bond and 3M. Now he's always PMing me about slaying send help.

Still have Kingdom Come: Deliverance installed so I might give that a go again. Mostly stopped because I got to a point in the game that was confusing and rife with bugs that kept getting me in trouble with the Church.
Also thinking about launching Divinity: Original Sin 2. Already played through it once with a mate and enjoyed it. I heard that they've changed the story up quite significantly to make one of the arcs have better pacing or something along those lines? If it's the arc I'm thinking of, then yeah I'm interested to see the changes.

Might just pick up OSRS though. When I last played, I was levelling mining and smithing while watching shit on Netflix and that was quite comfy.
