Bottom post of the previous page:

another simple method is to just redirect disposals to somewhere hazardous before they reach cargo. Like the inside of the incinerator.

Get a t-ray scanner and follow the pipes from any random disposal bin to cargo (or just climb into a bin), then observe how the conveyor belt at cargo leads to a separate disposal pipe loop that leads to the crusher.

To send all the bins to the crusher, you essentially just have to bypass the conveyor belt. Either build pipes right over it or reroute the pipe just before the belts to some new pipes you make that go into the crusher pipes.

It's important to also put some form of barricade (walls or girders are good) around the conveyor belts that are between the exit of the pipes and the crusher so the victim can't just step off of the belt. Also, if a bomb happens pretty much anywhere and breaks pipes (or somebody intentionally sabotages them), your gimmick is ruined. Might also be a good plan to seal up the crusher room so people can't just walk in and see the carnage before breaking your trap.

Some maps have the outlet by the crusher a tile too far back and consequently the victim can survive by walking away from the crusher, although they'll be trapped. If this is the case just move the outlet a tile up.

Pro tip: Once you've set up your trap, build a chute in the main hallway (preferably at a corner) that leads to the disposal loop, get a bucket and splash water around it, and an ebow. I don't think you can afford noslips with this since you also need an emag to sabotage the crusher, but if you can afford them go for it. Anybody that walks by can just be thrown in the chute and dies instantly. Bonus points if you disable comms so people can't call for help.

t. a person who has successfully murderboned with this strat
This is the kind of murderboning I can get behind, as it actually takes some work and creativity outside of grabbing a dual e-sword and ambushing people. Love disposal traps.

The ones into the crusher are fine, but the best ones are the ones that just straight up dump you into space. It makes it possible for people in hardsuits to survive, but it is significantly more hilarious in my mind.

can't you just wire disposals into a stationwide loop instead
that way you can make people want to die without being able to

How do you modify the detective's revolver, and can traitor .357s fire .38s just fine? Realism wise they should be able to but I can see why that'd be a problem in terms of gameplay.

Use a screwdriver on the gun to enlarge the barrel. Pretty sure it will eventually blow up in your hand after modification though, so be careful.

The .38 revolver when modded can fire .357 but there's a moderate chance each shot will backfire the gun on you. You're better off keeping it as is since .38s stamina damage is just as good as the pure damage output of a .357, without the risk of backfiring.

i think i vaguely remember having problems with it a while ago and the response i got from gods/admemes was "have you thanked your coders today?", so i assume its bugged and currently nonfunctional. i could be wrong, though, so if anyone knows any better please speak up.

Trying to get a motion sensor alarm that warns me whenever something moves in a rough area, including each incident not just the first.
Pretty sure proximity sensors will trigger multiple times but they may or may not have a cooldown, I don't know. How large is the area you want to affect? It might just be better to use an infrared beam if it's a doorway or something similar.
I'd been trying to setup some sort of proximity alarm for the Cooling Loop of the supermatter engine; people in spacesuits kept damaging the piping.
But for some reason, I cannot get the prox sensor to trigger the remote signaller, to make it beep in my pocket, or play a sound or trigger a message playback or something.
Now I'm thinking maybe just rig up an Anti-breach shield layout or something.

Because they think this is GTA V in space.

Because they're bored or burned out on the game.

Because they think it's funny. (admittedly sometimes it is.)

you can just type "sto" and hit space and pick it from the auto-finish list that pops up
it is seriously not hard dude

No, don't even help him with this, all admins should know how to just type verbs in. I actually do not understand how you can even attempt to be an administrator and try to manage 5 pages of verbs without being able to type them in.
Treat it functionally like a search bar. Type a key word from the verb you want (for stop sounds, try "stop" or "sounds".) The autocomplete list (the search results) come up and you pick it from there, easy. Do not use the tabs. DO NOT USE THE TABS!

If you're asking for stop sounds to stop all playing sounds for yourself, you can either type in the verb "Stop-Sounds" or navigate to Preferences > Stop Sounds
If you want to stop sounds for the entire server, you can use the verb "Stop-All-Playing-Sounds" or navigate to Debug > Stop-All-Playing-Sounds (this will stop sounds for everyone and is useful if you need to stop lobby music to play a song in the lobby.)

Rooms don't cycle air unless they need to. You can either cause a breach (pressure will drop and new air from the distro will be pumped in) or you can set the air alarm to flood, cycle, draught, etc.

Re: Simple Questions Thread

Draught will siphon air and replace it at the same time, allowing you to stabilise the room's temperature with the temperature of the air in distro.

Why was Telecoms' word and code manipulation removed? I enjoyed the idea of having the ability to change someone's words into something else. Such as, maybe making it so all phrases are now passive. Replace "yes" "yeah" and all other affirmations with "maybe" and all "no's" with "maybe not." There are other words I would replace too to make it work, but still you get the idea. Replacing captain with condom for example.

Why was telescience removed? Was it because it was too easy? I liked calibrating it up and trying to teleport into silly places, and not accidentally into space.

I'm more butthurt about telecoms, a lot of the prewritten scripts are really fun.

Pre-written scripts were a problem with NTSL for the most part as it basically just buffed AIs with 0 downside, as well as scripts that were basically recursive and caused the server to crash every 5 minutes. It was a neat but poorly thought out system. It would be cool to get just basic word manipulation back and a lot of people have been suggesting it but nobody's been stepping up to code it, so yeah.

Telescience was another issue in that it kind of trivialized space travel and gave science too much reach and relied entirely on out of game tools to use. Nobody ever actually did the math to do it and a calculator was floating around that basically made it doable for free. I'm also kind of upset that it got removed since it was actually fun to do, but the way it was operated mechanically was just not good and the rewards were just too exploitable.

1. Someone found a way to crash the server with NTSL code and nobody was able to come up with a way to sanitize it
2. A single person abused telescience (i.e. used it to break rules like metagaming) every single round 24/7 until he was banned, he then made a removal PR which was eventually merged

The reasons stated by PKP are true but this better explains why features that we had for months (years in the case of telescience) were actually removed. Yes the calculator had been on the wiki for years as well

It wasn't that somebody found a way to do this, something happened that made it so recursion was incredibly easy to do even accidentally. People were coming onto the server and touching the NTSL console unknowingly and putting really simple things and it would bring the server to its knees every time. But yeah

Obligatory soapbox. Most of these two issues were fixed with randomized space locations and adding more diverse ruins. Kinda wish we'd just coded telesci scrambler devices to block teleports in and out of a specific location instead.

You'll absolutely have to make telesci not require out of game tools to operate if you intend to readd it, since that was the main thing that killed it. I doubt our maintainers would allow it back in without at least that.

They're adding circuits which require knowledge of circuit design and microcontrollers and will turn into another copypaste fiesta, so I doubt this was the "main thing". To reiterate

Image

The tool and coords had been on the wiki for 3 years when telescience was removed. The "main thing" that killed it was literally Vcordie running it into the ground with metagaming bullshit 24/7 (he also got the hotel and space bar removed in the process). You could take any game feature and abuse it for a month to get it removed, hell you could do it with fucking bombs if you wanted and someone (bonus points if you do it yourself like he did) will eventually make a PR which removes bombs on the basis "bombs are too easy to make, the destruction is hard to repair and rounds end too quickly, so bombs have to go", which are all valid concerns but don't change the fact that we had bombs since forever and they only got removed when someone abused them.
