The two that come to mind for me are Maggie Byrde and Nico De Luna

Waterfleainc/Maggie Byrde: They were my favorite officer main on Manuel since they (at least in my experience) knew when to let stuff slide and when to actually pursue it. I think they got burned out during the last summer when Manuel was recovering from the DDOS and also dynamic, having a few really rough weeks in the summer of 2022 since they were often one of the only sec officers playing and would almost always get killed or get swarmed by people being shitters. They stopped playing right before November of 2022, and have only observed twice in May 2023, and since then haven't played SS13 at all.

NicoDeLuna/Nico De Luna: I admittedly didn't interact too much with them all too often until like, a month and a half before they stopped playing, since I'm mostly in cargo, and they tended to rotate around with different jobs. They were in a group I'd call "doers" who tended to get up to something nearly every round. They were a pretty talented artist and I loved their SS13 art. They even submitted a loading screen during the art contest this year. From what I can tell, Nico dropped off the face of the earth on September 5th out of nowhere, leaving the Manuel Discord, leaving the TG Discord, and even nuking their Twitter account. I have a feeling it was probably related to the metacomm incident, even though they didn't take part (or at least didn't get banned). They rejoined the main TG discord shortly afterward, but they still aren't in the Manuel Discord. Hopefully, that means they're just taking a break.

I'm really, REALLY late to the party as this was a year ago, but Quinn mentioned to me (I play Sherrie Jet Scott if you know that name lol) awhile back that SS13 was beginning to feel grindy and not as fulfilling or fun to play, even on Aurora. I gave them an o7 and they ended up dropping off the face of the Earth a few months after that (I forget when exactly this was; mid 2023? I'd check but my old discord got hacked, so I'm guessing here).

I miss Quinn. It gets a little hard to play Sherrie nowadays because that was her wife, y'know? See my forum signature, it's there forever.

Okay, now my half: I knew a lot of players who were much more active in 2022 that disappeared for one reason or another. Achernar (CJ)'s player said handling SS13's community was hard and we ended up going our separate ways (and AFAIK they don't play much anymore?). Tallfission (Mollo Tettinger) was here a long time, too, and made some really, really good antagonist gimmicks. Cecelia Alder, also. All of them moved on, mostly out of living circumstances or boredom. If anyone knows, when's the last time we saw Marianne Catlay and Jehni Kayn? Emerald Bromson, too, I feel like don't see her much.

I've said it to some of these players' faces before, but I really do appreciate them not just for their writing, but as people. Everyone that I mentioned was there for me when I first booted up the game in late 2021. They taught me how things worked and were understanding with me on an OOC level, and inspired some top-notch roleplaying along the way. Here's to you guys. I miss medpop antagonist gimmicks centered around tabling each other and digging into what little lore /TG/ has with whole arcs that spanned across servers wholly unrelated lmao.

Randy Highlands/thatcoolguydevin was a goddamn Space Hero. Greatest Sec main I’ve ever had the privilege to know, with a heart of gold, a robust hand, and the willingness to play out a bit with even the most heavily armed antag as long as they demonstrated they were willing to play ball right back. Security is lesser with him gone more and more often these days, though we do occasionally see a return.

Hali Psy/Higgin is also a character I really miss— though Higgin is still around, she’s only here sporadically and barely plays. Hali the character is fully retired, but was another supremely excellent character indeed. Lowpop Miner/Engineer with robust and determined skill, they would sustain the station on materials and order up a full kit to single-handedly hold an entire Blob’s flank on Icebox. Saw that one play out multiple times, occasionally stood up out of my seat to cheer. They also pulled me up by the collar from the edge of death in the Supermatter chamber on TIDESTATION 13, a Birdshot round in which I as an assistant took Acting Captaincy and held the line against ultimate entropy. I would have died right then and there and the round would have likely ended if they didn’t save me from my own fuckup.

Kanaga and Milo Siegrist/Neocloudy is another one I miss quite a bit. They play HRP Nova Sector and a spot of TGMC here and there, and we’re still in contact, but they absolutely refuse to touch /tg/. Kanaga was a blind and soft spoken cat that was HRP just by existing, playing out the role totally in-character and with surprising competency (ever seen a blind person get so pissed with a Tider they hand their ass to them in open combat despite their disability?) and Milo was a joy to shit around with, breaking many Medbay tables and pairs of their glasses while we worked in Med as docs.

Last, but certainly not least, is a pair— Flickswitch/Dopamiin & Medusa-TERABYTE-Earth MT/SightLD2. These two are still the greatest AI players the servers have ever known, im convinced, and both have been more or less driven off from /tg/ by an unfortunate amount of onions in their tomato bisque. While I cannot blame them, I can lament that they don’t play— when these two were in the same round as any of their characters, the sass rung across comms like the thrumming of a power line. Never mean-spirited, but heavily sarcastic, and witty all the same. From lampshading my status as a traitor without giving me away, to taunting me as I was put away in Perma, to watching incredulously as I tided into the armory as my cat fiend, both of them always brought a lot of character to the rounds that I sorely miss. Dopa if you see this fuck you!!! Nerd!!!

I miss preschizo usednapkin. I even miss players that I absolutely disliked back in the day. Cdb, paprika. I miss SAC. Reading his posts still makes me laugh.

Shouts out to ikkarus as well for making one of the best maps in this game that still gets used. I miss finding little exploits on meta station and telling him so he would fix it.


I miss the old and now probs forgotten unless you go back on GitHub coders that made a game that I loved and played the shit out of for the longest time, all of whom did it for free™. Looking back on it now, and with the advantage of having worked a job for the last near decade: critising is easy, actually doing the job is hard. I think I had good intentions when I complained about the game changing beneath my feet but ultimately I was also being a little bitch complaining but not actually getting involved in making the game I wanted to see.

Also bonus points for any old friends here, if anyone remembers Sly I have a story that's always stuck with me of watching him on baystation emote by himself in research describing his actions with fucking paragraphs for like damn near an hour.
