We're waiting for the lawsuit to go through which means lots of motions to dismiss and back and forth.
It's out of our hands technically speaking.
Technically its still negotiations. There hasn't been a filing yet.

Then it's out of our hands unless someone wishes to take direct action.

whats the difference between fallout13 and goonstation ? or is goon coded from scratch ? while fallout13 is based of tg/ the old goon release ?

IIRC gonnstation code traces his lineage back to the original USB drive which was stolen from the creator of ss13

I mean, without branching. Are there even still surviving branches that forked before the first goonstation public release?

Goon isn't in violation because we're technically a fork of THEM. They can do whatever the fuck they want with their code since it's MIT, and not (A)GPLv3.

extreme ballpark number, wjohnston would be able to answer more accurately: about 85% is original (aka: made by the coders, or me/WJ/nienhaus)
we still have turbo old sprites in there somewhere, walls come to mind

I only did a chunk of the sprites. The old FO13 build already had a bunch of original assets, so I just contributed what I could. There's a handful of other people that have sprited for the project as well. I'm probably going to hold off on doing anymore work until all this blows over, though.

https://github.com/tgstation/tgstation#license I'm not sure the art assets will be material when they are licensed under a different, and seemingly more lax, license that permits Fallout13's use of them.

Why don't you want people to use your sprites?

Would anyone on /tg/ actually use them, though? Or would they just dump all of the clothing into the costume vending machine and promptly forget about them? The only thing I made with /tg/ in mind were the e-sword sprites, but it didn't seem like anyone on the coderbus wanted them.

there was no stolen USB, an angry dev named AZA got pissy with another dev named Murrawhip and posted everything on the forums, AZA was banned and a month later the powers that were had a vote for an open source ss13, titled openss13, which saw numerous iterations before a goon recoded the game and it was hosted by a guy named persh

where did you get a USB drive?

Confirmed by oldfag. Double confirmed by 2nd oldfag. AZA was also a huge drunk. Probably still is. (USB thing is probably just urban legend crap.)

USB Story is just something that gained traction over the years as a story that's be reported over and over. As to why, I'd argue it generally makes a better story that someone stole this USB thumb drive from their friend who trusted them, to release the code to the community at large after some sort of disagreement that they had. It sounds better than someone got drunk and angry then released the code on forums because...drunk and angry.
