it's not whether or not they can hit the notes it's the amount emotion they can inject into the music

Maybe in bizarro world where we have no concept of talent or skill and it's okay if everyone sucks at everything as long as they tried hard enough.

So this is like, a masterpiece to you then right?

This is as good as singing gets? I mean, that's real love right there. So this is the best song ever sang.

No, not really that is just plain shitty, the guy isn't putting any real effort in and can you blame him? He sounds like he has serious mental issues. I mean like Kurt Cobain. I'm not a huge fan of him but the dude didn't have that great of a singing voice but he used what he had to create songs that are catchy and anthemic. Same thing with that band Cows I posted, when they started off they were not the best musicians and their singer never learned how to sing really but they used what they had to create a style of music that is unlike anything else. The way they structure their chord progressions and everything is nuts, you won't find another band who does that. They have songs where the main bassline is based on the bassist striking an open string and turning his volume up and down, and somehow it sounds amazing.

I was actually going to bring up Kurt Cobain as an example of someone who both had a lot of emotion and could sing and compose very well. Nirvana has really manic swings in energy, and Kurt mumbles a lot of his vocals, but his range and ability to control his voice were great.

Listening to dumbass teenagers thinking they can easily cover Nirvana songs because he made it look so easy is fucking great. Go look up some Nirvana covers on youtube if you want some cringe material.

Regardless, compare this to what you posted. Totally different levels of production quality and talent.

Like seriously Nirvana Live at Reading will open your mind if you think Kurt was just some angsty piece of shit mumbling his way to millions of dollars and international fame.

EDIT: Okay the vocals in the second track you posted are much better. Now he's actually keeping time and not running out of breath. Much better.

Yea production quality difference for sure not so much talent.. I'm not saying us vs them mine is talented yours isn't, but I mean come on man I challenge you to play Smells Like Teen Spirit on your guitar and then to play Chow on your guitar and see how that goes. It's hard to mimic Kurt's voice especially because he started fuck it up by screaming a lot which creates an overall raspier thing and you can only get that if you're willing to damage your vocal cords. They took very simple poppy melodies and made them heavier blah blah blah.. Kurt had a great ear for songwriting but overall Nirvana songs are very simple. If you play an instrument you'll see that. That's his genius though, he took simple things and made them unique and special. But that does not diminish from the Cows at all. I think you are letting your ear bias you and also maybe don't play your own music because if you did you would see how impressive songs like Chow etc are. You cannot name me another chord progression that sounds like that and I guarantee no one here could come up with a fitting guitar riff given only the bassline to that song. Don't even get me started on fitting a vocal melody into that as well.

Good example of another band is Butthole Surfers. Guarantee you would say that they're untalented etc like you did about Cows, but Cows used to open for the Surfers. And guess who were one of Cobain's favorite bands and biggest influences? You guessed it baby it's the Butthole Surfers.

Slow your roll homie I didn't criticize The Cows instrumentation or compare them to Nirvana in that respect.
I just said that the singer sounded sloppy and needed to button that up.

We were just talking about singers and vocals. Talking about instrumentation is a whooooole other can of worms, and I'm inclined to agree with what you've said. Most Nirvana songs are really easy to pick up and play, you'll spend more time figuring out what combination of effects and amps at what settings it takes to get that sound than you will learning to pick out the notes.

But you can say the same thing about The Beatles. Nothing exceptionally hard to play, but damn if it doesn't come together beautifully.

If we want to talk about that, and talk about some really great rock and roll like, sure let's

yea music is all subjective that's why its great. Someone who really loves music in my opinion can appreciate a song without loving it or having it be something they'd play on a regular basis. I don't like ELO that much but they are good musicians and dont get me down bruce has been stuck in my head plenty. glad you liked Chow I just wanted to share Cows my man

That first song's vocals just got off on the wrong foot. I'm listening to their other stuff and liking it a lot more.

I'm guess you probably already like/listen to The Melvins? Otherwise I'd recommend you check them out.

Or maybe these guys

Ft Lauderdale, they're coming with the Butthole Surfers bassist and maybe guitarist. and we have Primus coming with Danny Carey from Tool on drums like a week later.

Turbonegro is pretty cool.

Uhh she pops up a few times in the video but most prominently at 2:11 she's on the screen by herself for a second. I just asked her about it and she's apparently a really big fan and I had no idea.

I know people that dress like that every day so I wouldn't have guessed it was for anything special.

Also for the record she's much cooler than I am.

speaking of melvins let me tell you about Code Orange, which is basically melvins with a lobotomy

i've been listening to it on and off sincei t's release and although i think top-to-bottom i prefer their first album, Code Orange Young Adults put out an alright new album

a little too much integrity/disembodied/90s metalcore worship for me but whatever. i saw them live in august and the new songs were great live except for the retards trying to mosh windmilling everyone in the face

I don't really get it, it just sounds like Merzbow did the first half of the track and then Full of Hell does the other. I was expecting something closer to Masonna.
