It was hilarious with the six of us playing. The driving is fun and whacky, the gun play is actually good and the game looks like total utter complete shit.

I like it, it's basically prisoner's dilemma meets counter strike. Of course, the optimal strategy in the prisoner's dilemma is to betray every time and most players tend to think along those lines.

My favorite in the lower population rounds is tossing an empty briefcase to some poor sucker, then whipping out an MP5 when the guys hands are full and unloading on his buddies and then him before he can drop it and pull his gun out. One round I sent my only partner with the disk to hide and managed to arrange for both the other teams to meet me in different places, murdered the first team, pretended to be lost, then arrived late and murdered the second team. The high pop rounds actually have some pretty good exchanges, but it degenerates into gunfights about 85% of the time.

There's no tension in this game because everyone always just shoots the shit out of the other team.

Action is its own reward.

Actually completing the deal doesn't have an equal incentive.

Ergo, all the "tension" is really just imaginary and a pretense. Will the other team try to backstab you? Of-fucking-course they will...what else is there to do? The best "strategy" is to line up your shots before everyone has their guns out and kill everyone as quickly as possible, every time.

I've never experienced the tense negotiation/backstabbing dealing the game advertises itself as. Every round of it I've ever played is a really shitty GTA multiplayer-esque match of capture the suitcase.

Sure we're playing the same game? Because on the handful of servers that were still running I've had plenty of peaceful exchanges.

Depends, when you have 3 equally matched teams the tension goes up because it's actually in the interest of the two dealer teams to cooperate because they can easily dunk the third team if they work as a group but will probably loose if they end up fighting each other. It's actually reasonably balanced with 3 even and large teams. However, when you have two equally matched teams and a weak or non-existent third team, it's always better to betray so it just becomes a deathmatch. It tends to go in cycles too- if players who know they can usually trust a certain team to be honest are on both teams it'll create a really slow series of rounds but once a betrayal happens it tends to descend into a shitfest. Having the teams get shuffled every round would fix that. But it's really not a bad game as long as all 3 teams are evenly matched.

Of course, all it takes is one spaz or idiot to type in the wrong chat to the wrong team and everyone unloads at the first sign of trouble.
