Why should this appeal be accepted?:
I was commenting in politics-off-topic-or-on-topic, which as i understand it is the relaxed version of politics, where you're allowed to go offtopic and generally be much less serious than the on topic channel.

The channel was debating politics and I told rave that them trying to serious post int eh channel was a waste of time because the people are usually only there to post hteir takes past each other

then i said they dont want to debate

and threes said would you like to

and I said no and then tongue in cheek said i'm not stupid enough to engage with you.

At which point omega polcon banned me.


I don't think this is a sensible ban because this channel is not meant to be soley for on topic debate and some level of trolling is to be accepted, which means my post wasn't in violation of any rules.

I should be able to post in the off-topic channel and not engage in serious debate as long as i don't do that in the actual on topic channel.

I also don't think that calling someone stupid is an unacceptable level of discourse for that channel normally.

Heya!

To be clear, my problem wasn't you calling someone stupid. That's perfectly allowed in polcon- my problem was with you trying to stop a discussion between two individuals without any intent to actually engage for yourself. Polcon is a place for discussion, even if it's off-topic discussion, and people who go in there with the intent to stop ongoing conversations are looked down on by me.

I ended up banning you for violating rule 1b of the discord rules about engaging in good faith (which applies to every channel) and not going out of your way to misattribute what people's intentions are. However, a few other admins brought up the fact that that discussion did have some other people who were misattributing what rave was saying (eg, wrench said that he was either bad-faith or a fascist) and they didn't get caught out in a polcon ban. I'm not going to go and retroactively apply punishment, but I figure that if they're not going to get slapped for it, you shouldn't either in this case.

This appeal is accepted, and you're free to engage in polcon again. For future reference, I don't have an issue with shitposting (unless it gets to the point of being super disruptive) but I really don't like people trying to stop others from talking with each other. Discord's meant for communication and all that.
