[Note Appeal] A poor workman blames his tools

Post by KingKuma » #766309

Webcomicartist:

Ban/note type: medium note

Ban/note duration: indefinite.
Ban/note reason: As a non-antagonist engineer, BSA'd the bridge accidentally thinking that it was a comms agent because of the "encrypted communications signal", bloiwng up the captain. Knows the difference now, and was sorry about it.
Time ban was placed: 2024-05-30 05:32:57
Server you were playing on when banned: Manuel
Round ID in which ban was placed: 229677

Why are you making this appeal? (Put an x in the boxes):
() - The ban/note is factually incorrect
() - The ban/note is not against the rules
(x) - The ban/note needs modification
(x) - The ban was unjustifiably harsh
() - I was permabanned and I want another chance

Why should this appeal be accepted?
Now, before I start, I'd like to say that this note's cause is my favorite thing ive ever had happen in ss13. I've even made a chatlog for it, as it continually makes me laugh my ass off reading it. (Picture below.)

But to be frank, I feel a medium note is overly harsh. For one - there was a comms agent who'd been a nuisance throughout the shift. I knew, from the wiki, that the comms agents have a beacon in their gas mask they cant turn off, and well, "encrypted comms signal" sounds like something that'd be used on a syndicate outpost - especially given they can disguise voices, hence "encryption." But no, the syndicate signal is just flat out "Encrypted signal", without the "comms", despite being worn by the comms agent. I talked to the HOP and AI postround, and there is zero bad blood between any of us over it. Below is a short story, written by AZURE, the AI, who saw the whole thing go down.

"I want you all to like see this from my point of view:

HoS went SSD, Captain went SSD.
HoP begrudingly took over the duties of both the Captain and the HoS. They make their way to the bridge, to check the past messages i assume.
They then talk through security comms, saying "Could anyone tell me what has happened thus far?"
Silence. The other officers either are too busy, or they simply do not care enough to answer. Everything is calm, the HoP stands besides the comms console waiting for an answer. Ready to take command of both the station and the security situation, ready to involve himself in the story and happenings that he didnt care enough to catch up before. Surely, this HoP would go on to do great things.

OUT OF NOWHERE A HUGE BLUE RAY FALLS FROM THE SKY, THE ENTIRE BRIDGE IS BLOWN TO SMITHERINES, THE HOP IS INSTANTLY GIBBED, HIS ORGANS SPLATTER AGAINST THE GROUND, SAID GROUND QUICKLY ALSO JUST STOPS EXISTING, LEADING STRAIGHT INTO THE VASTNESS OF SPACE. EVERY SINGLE COMPUTER IS EITHER REDUCED TO METAL SHEETS OR DAMAGED TO THE POINT IN WHICH THEY DONT HAVE THEIR BOARDS ANYMORE. THE HOP IS FUCKING GONE. EVERYTHING IS."

I mean, it's a half-year old note over what was a mistake, and I just left it there as a "this guy knows for the future." If you think medium severity is too harsh, sure I can lower it, sure thing.
