WMD headruling update?

Post by Boot » #628676

An example of this is suicide bombing a wizard or BoH bombing the cult base. If use of the weapon does not win the round for your side immediately after, then it is grief and will be treated as such by admins.
Since we are on dynamic now ought this ruling be archived rulings or should it be updated to match the latest ruling as per viewtopic.php?f=33&t=29176. The wiki page on the ruling still have the old ruling and its was brought up in a recent appeal so I think its time to change it.

I think another issue with this is the vague term attached to it "weapons of mass destruction", and then the following statement of "suicide bombing". It is possible to make explosives that are not a 5/10/20 maxcap that will utterly murder anyone around you. Chemists, Atmos Technicians and Scientists can all create explosives. It is quite easy to make them not gib, as well as limit the damage they cause.

I believe that not all explosives are weapons of mass destruction, and that should be made more clear. Suicide bombing should not instantly mean you are griefing, either. If I walk up to a cultist with a bomb in my backpack, and it deals a 3x3 radius of heavy damage (not gibbing), it will probably crit or kill me. But it shouldn't be considered griefing just for being a suicide bombing. Furthermore, If I bomb a cultist base and it only destroys a 5x5 maint room, even if I am gibbed, that should not be considered griefing because they were all cultists (antagonists) and the worst that could happen to non antagonists would be treatable injuries. This is even if it does not end the round.

The way this has always been treated by myself and other admins (that I know of anyway, some might handle it differently), is fairly simple, but I'll explain it to you

If you suicide bomb the wizard / cult / xeno etc etc, and you kill innocent crewmembers, and / or cause immense damage to the station, you may be bwoinked / banned depending on the situation at hand

If a cult is summoning narsie and you maxcap everyone at the cost of a few innocent lives, chances are, admins are going to waive that as the summoning would get everyone killed anyway, but if you maxcap a friendly wizard or a single xeno hunter and wipe out innocents, you are going to get the boot

A proper headmin ruling would be good but basically this is all about balance, if your actions caused more damage than they have prevented, that's on you, but if your actions caused more good and prevent further casualties and damage (even by causing damage) chances are you aren't going to get in trouble

I more then understand this but the current headmen ruling is not this and the old one is being brought up in ban appeals so my point was that its time to update it to stop mentioning "rounds" or be retried like the other rulings that mentioned them.

Given that it has been brought up again I think its reasonable to revive this.
Given that you're unable to immediately end the round by bombing a Traitor, doing so is pretty much universally considered thinly veiled grief.
I'm not sure if the admin knows this or not but you can't end the round by bombing anyone anymore so I'll ask again. Should we be updating this rule or just retiring it?

We have now moved this ruling into the archived section of the Headmin Rulings page. Thanks for the heads up!
