Unfortunately, the core timer is broken so basically nothing works yet, but that should hopefully get dealt with at a reasonable place

also, from a CM co-host:

It has now reached a point where I am just very tired, so I have a few things to announce. The first thing I will announce is what I will do should this harassing behavior continue. First off, if he does run his own CM, the first thing I will do is send a DMCA. Then I'll be contacting the Fox attorney who we are on good terms with and inform him of this new server that is not attempting to comply. Then, the second he makes a code change to the server, I will send a cease and desist as modifying the code is in direct violation of our licensing laws.

CM has some sort of talky with Fox, since Fox's lawyer contacted them recently to make them change name/url (which is why they're cm-ss13 now, instead of colonial-marines. They also removed some names from ingame i think)
so one of CM's hosts is threatening to tell Fox on MSO
but MSO doesn't care

considering this is the second time that the code has been stolen in the past week .... yeah its pretty safe to say that the announcement has been in the works for some time.

To be fair Feweh DID NOT give the code to MSO as far as I know. It might not even be connected. Considering how the CM moderation sees it, it might be however. Regardless someone leaked the code and it is believed to be someone who is friends with Feweh in some sort of retaliation against the CM developers/admins.

Here's my take on the situation

Truthfully I'm not very keen on being a tool of someone else's vengeance if this is. I don't like that MSO went around what the other developers at CM wanted to do with their code (keep it in house), because I would like it if someone respected my wishes if that happened to me. Kinda a "golden rule" type of approach. Be nice to others and don't be a dick.

That being said the genie is out of the bottle and tg has picked what it wants to do.

Anyways that's my opinion on it. I'm sure someone has a good counterpoint.

Also if we are back to ripping people off can we go back to metroids?

The whole "respect their wishes" angle is questionable when they took open source code and their codebase was only closed source because of a loophole in the licence.

Nobody directly gave MSO the code, he got it from the leak same as everyone else. He's just savvy enough on how the license works to know that CM has no ground to stand on for DMCA and cease and desist bullshit when the very core of their code violates the liscense agreement it came from.

Their continues insisted on being close source is dumb and only serves to stroke their egos and let them keep being special snowflakes as long as the community can't get it anywhere else.

The irony in that situation is that CM used a loophole to make the code closed source to begin with, which means they didn't respect the wishes of the original coders. That's kinda why people are a bit saltinated with servers like CM at times.

The aspect of this you're all missing is the sprites are not virally licensed and I have no idea what license CM's sprites could potentially even be under.

Anyone running a copy of this is opening themselves up to valid complaints IMO.

I never liked that kind of thinking. TG (supposedly) operates on the consensus that we act professional and maintain rules within our server. Acting immorally makes you lose legitimacy when confronting a player or admin on fuck ups.

I'd be a little more concerned that the first thing he did was change the license to use all the properties of the Aliens franchise ect ect. I honestly doubt that anything will come of this however. Then again GW sued over this game, which was little more than text based.

They aren't saints but stealing is never right (in my opinion).

It doesn't hurt anyone to make a project closed source. SS13 started as closed source. I don't see what they were doing that was so wrong that merits why we were so uncivil to them.

If you somehow read into this wrong Repukan: I don't have any hand in ANY of this and have never said otherwise. I'm not involved. I'm just commenting on what we did, how it happened and how I perceive it as a spectator.

Anyways I'm going to play some SS13. I personally feel that both communities have contributed a good deal to ss13 and I don't like them being upset at each other but... what can ya do right? Drama happens.

MSO is very passionate about proper use of the licensing, and I feel pretty confident that he is running this server as a fuck you to CM for violating the terms running their closed source project using code that is under AGPL or some shit, which means their DMCA claims have no validity. Its all gibberish to me but MSO is principled if nothing else and CM is pretty fun so expect this server to stick around until Disney sends a deathsquad to his house

A blood cult with runes and constructs everywhere, a clock cult doing what they do in their temples, spiders or paradises terror spiders infesting a planet, a syndicate base, changlings, ligger or Catgirl resistance cells, rogue AI with armies of Borgs and Mecha.

What CM did was rather stupid. However I still don't like the fact that we took something that they didn't want us to take, that's immoral.

Legally I'm pretty sure the whole thing is a legal grey area however and we were "within our rights" to do whatever tg liked. That being said if we are going "all in" with copyright sprites stuff bring back metroids.

Success really isn't a factor. It got reported or turned up in a google search by someone in their legal dept and so they went after it because if they don't protect their trademarks it can shift into the public domain. If anything they prefer small fries to crop up every once and a while over someone with the capital to try and hit back with a fair use or somehow prove their iteration is unique enough in court.
