Conscious Insanity [Antag Idea]
Note: The initial idea for this antag was made on the discord, and most of the content and root idea was contributed by Nope.WAV. I've only contributed a little.

The Conscious Insanity
A failed attempt at immortality through magic by an ancient race, the insanity was a being made immortal by only existing through others minds and thoughts. But it's initial presence after creation was destroyed by those untouched, and the only remaining phrase that invoked the Insanity was floating in space, practically forgotten, until now...
Also, brand new antagonist proposal, explored in depth and given its own goals.
It functions likes the sentient disease, being a non-character antagonist, and "infecting" other players to afflict side effects. Where they diverge though is that the Conscious Insanity's only passive effect is constant hallucinations that worsen the more people is has infected, and a lot of abilities.
It also is not designed around taking people out of the round, instead of insanity effects, paranoia, and general confusion.
How it goes:
At the start, one random player is infected with the Insanity, the only clues being very minor hallucinations and a neutral mood let.
From here on, the Insanity will choose a phrase that when heard or seen, infects another player with the insanity. It will be given a random rotation to prevent common words or phrases from triggering the effect.
After that is established, the Insanity starts to harvest stolen thoughts from every living player on the station (No AI or cyborgs). for every 5 seconds, a cycle takes place, and every insane will generate 2 stolen thoughts, and every sane produces .04 stolen thoughts. Also, every negative moodlet on an insane increase thought production by 10%. All this is of course, up to balance if need be.
As it grows, it only has one initial way of spreading, which is to force a random insane to write your phrase on a paper. If there is no pen, they will use their blood. If there is no paper, they will use their skin. However, if suspicion arrives you can pull away your influence to hide your moodlet at around .3 thoughts per second.
After getting more of the station infected, the inkling of control becomes and abstract idea, and gets more control. It can forcefully remove positive moodlets to prevent any small attempt to destroy it, but only from a single random insane at a time. However, it can now force a random insane to whisper the phrase, allowing for more spread. To sow some seeds of chaos as well, it can now create false visions of separate antagonists, such as swarmers, blob spores, nuke ops, etc. And just to mess with it's victims, it can send messages to either one insane of it's choosing, or all of them.
By now, it would have become it's own independent thought, infesting the minds of the insane, and swallowing their ideas. Now the insane can force it's victims to twitch and flinch, making them attack anyone nearby for reduced damage, but still attacking nonetheless. It can also force a random Insane to speak any sentence of its choosing, as long as it does not contain the phrase, to sow further discord. And by now aswell, the force of the Insanity is strong enough to force an unluckly individual to scream the phrase, exponentially increasing the growth.
Now is when it becomes its own full consciousness, competing with the minds of each and every infected. Its very presence can forcefully turn a section of the station into an absolute bloodbath, rusting everything, destroying the floors, spreading blood everywhere, and even sucking the air out. And although a bit situational, it can exert force over every insane's actions and make them all face a certain direction, lining up, or all face a certain point. However, even more disturbing is it's ability to temporally suppressing the consciousness of every insane, knocking them over and forcing them to scream, whisper, and mutter the phrase for a short period of time.
But now the Insanity is it's own absolute being and has control over the majority of the station personnel. it is now able to force all insane to full under it's will and walk towards a specific area, only able to slow themselves down until the power runs out. And even if that fails, it can corrupt the entire station like how it did with only a small section before: rust, blood, chaos and pain. But even that isn't enough, for the Insanity can force itself whole into a solid being, stalking an unfortunate insane, and tormenting the minds of any who see it. But that is only the slightest torment, as now it can force its powers into the minds of the insane themselves, corrupting and making them all incredibly miserable with delusions, madness, and insanity. And after it is done playing with it's victims, it will enact an absolute state of disassociation, making everyone on the station, infected or not, under it's absolute will with horrific hallucinations as they fight each other in a purified state of madness.
But yet, it's not invincible. There is always the oh-so classic option of quarantine and execution, but with it being spread through sound and words, a small slip can break everything.
However, there is way to fight it directly and purge it from your mind. First, you need to become happy to weaken its control. But not happy from a single thing, but from three separate moodlets. Then, you must rest and quite literally, face your inner demons and fight the aspect of the Insanity. From it's weakest it is a tiny slime, and to it's strongest only the most prepared warrior could take it down. But if you fail, it overtakes you completely and corrupts you permanently, stealing a few extra thoughts along the way. (It has not been discussed if you can be re-infected or not)
And that, is the Conscious Insanity. An immortal being that lives through thoughts, and ALL your focus will be on IT if it is given the chance.
This has been the idea for a New antag Idea. Further details are avalible in this document. Please, leave some feedback, and thank you for reading this!

Hallucinations are kind of overused. however the idea of a moodlet based antagonist is interesting to say the least. It would definitely put the system to good use.

That's a pretty accurate comparison to be honest.Ayy Lemoh wrote:who is this the fucking bye bye man?
That is a good point, but i'm not exactly sure what the hallucinations could be replaced with that would make sense with the whole Insanity idea.Dr_bee wrote:Hallucinations are kind of overused. however the idea of a moodlet based antagonist is interesting to say the least. This probably will make people just avoid pieces of paper out of paranoia (No one talks on this station anyways).

People eat ground pills despite the risk, but it's a good point that may cripple the antag. Hopefully it won't.SaveVatznick wrote:This probably will make people just avoid pieces of paper out of paranoia (No one talks on this station anyways).
It doesn't suck the life out of people though atleast. It's more of a moodlet based sentient disease with screen abberations.Selea wrote:Moodlet based revenant, which spreads screen abberations?

No, the phrase is given a rotation, so for example, Hello becomes Wtaad, and ideally people wont worry about accidentally saying the phrase while sane.EagleWiz wrote:Because what we really need to do is make people talk less?

Now you're entering the realm of bad antag, in my opinion. That would also DEFINITELY make people talk less if saying simple shit can trigger the bye bye man asteroidUmber_Neno wrote:No, the phrase is given a rotation, so for example, Hello becomes Wtaad, and ideally people wont worry about accidentally saying the phrase while sane.EagleWiz wrote:Because what we really need to do is make people talk less?

Re: Conscious Insanity [Antag Idea]
Its not in that way. The document at the end of the main post provides more indepth background, but essentially, with a phrase being given a random letter rotation, a character would have to essentially speak gibberish and hope to precisely get the phrase right.Ayy Lemoh wrote:Now you're entering the realm of bad antag, in my opinion. It seems to be a big concern though, so maybe a possible fix could be that you could only get infected if you hear it from the activation of an ability only?

Do that and remove the rotation so you can have it be a memey phraseUmber_Neno wrote:Its not in that way.
