complex and always something new to do/a new goal to work towards
i have a la few suggestions:
1. Rimworld
2. Cogmind
3. DCSS/Nethack/Angband/Brogue (examine these four and take your pick, the difference in most of them only being design philosophy)
4. Garry's mod? maybe? i'm pulling at strings
5. Caves of Qud
6. Dwarf Fortress
7. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (CoP) i'm just bloating this to 10
8. Neo Scavenger (i think you'd really like this one, easy to learn difficult to master)
9. le minecraft/roblox/whatever idfk
10. go on a space station 13 codebase you've never played before and stay there for a whole month
as someone who played cdda for a good eight months, then hit that wall -hard-, then began the infinite search for a game like cdda that was much simpler that i wouldn't be burnt out on
1. rimworld is pretty fun but theres a hill at the start to go over, you have to get invested in it and not spend to much time customizing your players or you'll be burnt out before the game even starts
2. cogmind was pretty fucking fun for a good 2 or 3 hours for a few days then i found it to be the same thing just more difficult (which basically is what it is)
3. i've never played any of these, i'd give these a look
4. garry's mod is pretty interesting, community is slightly cringy though, alot of the depth comes from your ability to code, otherwise it's just limited to what you can download from the steam workshop.
5. i've heard of this but never played it, assumed to be a bretty ok game
6. dwarf fortress from what i understand is basically just a better version of CDDA with dwarves. i don't think they share any of the same controls and you'll probally find it way too similar to cdda and burn out pretty fast on it too
7. STALKER call of pripyat and clear skies are by far some of the best games i've played short of like the last of us (which is a inanely high standard to compete with but still). the two of them are very interesting, have a pretty decent story arc, and you feel like your playing it on a blyat-98 pc in the middle of siberia while slamming shots of vodka based off the atmosphere and graphics.
CoP would be the better of the two in terms of gameplay, the misery mod for CoP makes it incredibly difficult but add's loads of shit. if you're into that you might like it.
8. this game was really really great too, a good game to play for a good week or two, then eventually the content becomes basically "go to this specific location 300 tiles away for some more story, then to this other location for more story, then two other locations, then install mods, then be burnt out"
overall, there's a ok amount of content and the game play's very well and the art style is delicious, but there's a pretty hefty wall after a few weeks of play that can really only be surpassed by making your own mods.
which i mean, when you make your own mods you aren't really climbing the wall, just kind of shimming up it and stopping half way.
9. minecraft actually has some validity for being decent, modpacks like the technic launcher or feed the beast might give you some interest. you'll need a account though, 26? ish dollars. some packs add machines and magic and it's all really complex at certain points, you might like it.
roblox used to be okay to play back in like 09 and 010. alot of the games we're pretty arcadey and it was a decent bit of fun for a good 10 minutes. the only really valid games now are phantom forces and apocalypse rising. one is basically call of duty and one is basically dayz.
10.
i'm making a apocalypse 13 server,
https://discord.gg/6bFa38R i do try to keep in mind the aspects of cdda and how people get burnt out and lose interest
that and colonial marines is pretty fun for a few rounds.
the russian codebase for f13 is decently interesting too.
other than that, short of playing on goon or getting into some high levels of degeneracy. you won't really find anything interesting on other servers.
