Bottom post of the previous page:
Rushing straight back to the objective is only good if your team still has presence there. Otherwise it's always worth loitering for a second so you can have at least one buddy to run back with. Eg. if your team's support is dead rather than solo rushing into multiple enemies wait a sec for them to spawn and bro up.TF3

Re: Overwatch
Main ways to die to ghost dragon:
1: Be retarded and just run into it just flat out because you have such poor situational awareness even a lone Soldier distracts you from the world around you.
2: Get hit with a crowd control ulti
3: Die because you were busy in a pitched 5v5 running gunfight and the ulti was actually well timed and aimed to force you to chose how you want to die.
Also: What an0n3 said. If you are trickling in solo you are going to just flat out lose your team the game. Its all about how the characters combo, and even harrier style characters like Reaper and Tracer who are great solo don't ever rush the objective alone, they flank around the back and prevent the enemy from effectively working together.

Re: Overwatch
I like Hanzo a lot. His ult is a little funny in that he fires an arrow when he does it, that doesn't mean shit. The arrow does do damage if it connects with anyone but is meaningless when it comes to being reflected or if it hits a wall. His ult will continue on through intervening objects and such regardless of what happens to the shot that triggers it.
So if you fire your ult at Genji, he can reflect the arrow back at you but your ult still gets him. If you've got infra-vision or your scouting arrow up you can line up your ult through objects and fire it through walls blindsiding people. It's real easy on escort defense to wipe a whole time riding the cart when your dragon suddenly launches out off a wall and runs them all over.
I'm still not decided on which of the two snipers seems more powerful, Hanzo or Widowmaker. You could make an argument that Bastion is a sniper as well. He accomplishes the same objective: area denial through long-range firepower. He's just a lot messier than the one-shot-one-kill ethos of the others. He's the archetypical camper though. Doesn't move, sits still and heals himself up when he needs it.

Re: Overwatch
Snipe'd
Hanzo needs to be sneakier than Widowmaker. If he's spotted out in the open he can get fucked pretty hard. His bow is real bad in close. He doesn't get a zoom like Widowmaker does either, his projectile has flight time and drop. He doesn't have any traps to deal more damage.
On the plus side his mobility is much better for setting yourself up. No cooldowns on these wall runs! Unfortunately he can't use it to escape, which just contributes further to him being sunk hard in close combat.
If he can climb up someplace nice, though, his potential to shit all over the enemy team is pretty ridiculous. His skill ceiling is much higher than Widowmaker's. He's got his scattershot arrow for a little bit more CC. Scout arrow is amazing when used correctly, as you'll be able to fully charge and loose an arrow at people who haven't even exposed themselves to you yet. The feeling of hitting someone in the head with a fully charged arrow just as they rounded a corner because you lead them correctly is ridiculous. I've played against some Hanzo's I was sure were fucking cheating until I got to play with that ability and GOT GUD'er with it.
..but still Widowmaker just stomps him in close, can run from fights she doesn't want a part of better than Hanzo can, her hitscan + scope allows her to do some pretty insane shutdowns on people if your raw reflexes are just that good. Hanzo's ult can rock an enemy team if they don't see it coming, while Widowmaker's ult is arguably better in the hands of a skilled team.
But seriously can we talk about how fucking adorable this is?

Re: Overwatch
Bastion is a builder in my opinion, just a poorly designed one. The builder's role is to strongly punish teams from moving into an area without a coordinated effort to shut down what the builder set up. Snipers do have area denial but their job is more about being profoundly hard to kill and being good at killing tanks.
While Hanzo does struggle in close quarters he is MUCH stronger than Widowmaker at sniping at closer range, and if his E is up he can oneshot anyone trying to close on him. Aim at their feat and the initial scatter will instantly kill even roadhog. Also, unlike widowmaker his vision component doesnt really have a big cooldown.
The trick to Hanzo is to play less like a sniper and more like a marksman, you aren't completely remote because flight time and damage falloff hurts your bow, you are behind the main formation, and you use your extreme rate of fire and ability to always have wall vision up to your advantage to constantly take potshots at enemies around a corner in anticipation of them coming up. While widowmaker's kills are sudden and shocking, Hanzo's are hard to avoid despite you knowing he is there, because he is harder to outjuke.

Re: Overwatch
If you're playing Hanzo as a mid-range marksman I would recommend switching to McCree instead. Not that Hanzo can't do that, just that McCree is build explicitly for that and he does it better. My two cents. If you can pull off the consistent one-timers needed to make Hanzo work in close like that none of this matters, your twitch reflexes and precision aiming are so good you can do whatever the fuck you want.dezzmont wrote:Bastion is a builder in my opinion, just a poorly designed one. Re: Overwatch
I am not talking about being up in their face, he just doesn't work as a sniper at the ranges people often try to to play him. There is a point where your DPS gets lower than Widowmaker just waiting for 100% charge each time because of arrow travel time.
Hanzo is about, sometimes, just not aiming and repeatedly firing arrows at a corner because you know someone is about to pop around, he is based around always having sight through a wall and making reflex shots rather than lining up headshots, essentially a huntsman sniper compared to a rifle sniper if we are going the TF2 route. You fight at an effective range just beyond anyone besides Soldier.
McCree actually has an extreme damage falloff mechanic, because he indeed used to be better at the marksman role than Hanzo. His gun isn't really effective at long range anymore, it mostly can just tickle people. McCree just fights at a slightly longer effective range than Tracer or Reaper but has the option to apply half damage a shot at long range instead of using his flashbang to win any close up 1v1.

Re: Overwatch
I wish people would develop a nicer directional tell-tale system with a damage overlay of some sort. Its fine knowing that your being hurt at long range, but your natural assumption is that all damage is bad when the red markers flash up. At long range, particularly if you're a tank, it be nicer to know that you're not really being damaged in any significant way.
Or maybe its just the health hud isn't that easy to read at a glance, it being pretty much a single colour bar. Maybe if it changed colour or something. Quite often I find I'm either on more health than I thought or 1 shot away from death before I even realise.

Re: Overwatch
The game desperately needs some kind of function to push a button while staring at someone to mark them or call them out.
There's no pointing-at-the-map mechanic of a common MOBA and it makes being on a dedicated voice comm with everyone CRITICAL to even playing the basic game.
PUG life in this game is among the worst of anything I've ever played because there's so little way of coordinating or sharing information baked in to the game.
At the very least give me a single button press that puts a marker down people can see through walls, so when I notice the whole enemy team is flanking down a sideroute I can do more than just press F to acknowledge I'm about to get obliterated.

Re: Overwatch
PaS's concern is something that could be solved with a client-side HUD mod, but An0n3's issue is something that I found conspicuously lacking. Even TF2 has a larger variety of voice commands (sentry ahead, etc.). I know the characters have voice lines that communicate some of these things, but it seems like something you should be able to trigger on-demand.

LOL PUGS THATS NOT COMPETITIVE
Yeah but neither is taking your 6man into games against pubbers and shitting on them extra hard when everyone is too socially awkward/autistic to use voice comms
I'm a big proponent of "Mercenary" modes and I wish more games had them. PUG solo matchmaking you can't use if you're in a party with other people. Great for anyone who is just playing by themselves and wants to get into some games with randos, against other people who are also all randos. I'd love to see that appear in Overwatch when I just want to practice with a character.

If you think that's bad you should see what I do to people as Soldier76.NikNakFlak wrote:Nub
He's as basic as it gets. Nobody wants to pick him because he's the CoD character. Which is a shame because he's probably the best all-around character in the game.
1) Rifle has a deep magazine, solid damage, solid accuracy, and generous damage falloff. It's not hard to gun down Widowmakers and Hanzos by juking a little bit while hosing them down. You backpedal and gun down McCree, Tracer, Reaper, etc. It has difficulties against tanks but that's why
2) You got rockets. Great burst damage and a nice splash too. Effective when you're going toe-to-toe with Roadhog or D.Va. Good for putting some damage on faster characters who dance around too much. Cooldown is a bit longer than I would like but you can't have it all.
3) His sprint is probably the best mobility move in the game. No stamina, no cooldown, just press a button to suddenly run really fucking fast, as long and as far as you want. Learning where all the healthkits are and constantly being aware of them makes this simply stupid. If you bait someone far enough away from a point or escort objective you can sprint past them and dive on it for stupid wins. When you look backwards from atop the cart and emote as the defending team does their best to sprint back to you tell them I sent you.
4) His healing buff heals everyone, not just himself. Fuckin' nuts. Dropping this on an objective you're trying to capture is so goddamn good. I've won 3v1 fights by just dropping this and then jumping around inside it like an idiot while shooting people. Sometimes it feels like he has two ults.
5) His ult. That's right he actually has one. Aimbot people. Just goes to show how good his rifle actually is when you can consistently magdump into people. Sounds really underpowered until someone uses it from a high vantage point and gets a teamkill.

Re: Overwatch
McCree is stupidly short-ranged. Only slightly more effective range than Reaper.
Bang is lethal when you get the drop on someone or right in someone's face. You hit them with it to setup a point-blank fan into their face. Which requires you to be stupidly close and have ammo loaded. Which his roll sets you up with both. The problem is to get there you have to avoid using his only mobility option and you've only got assault HP. In open ground he dies before he ever gets there to everyone else shooting the shit out of him. He needs to use the terrain a lot to get in, at which point yeah the odds are stacking his favor, but only as long as he can stay there. He's got no self-heal ability or reliable defensive option like every other assault hero does. Tracer can rewind and dash, Reaper gets souls and phase/port, Soldier76 has his heal zone and sprint, Genji has his deflection, double-jump and wall climb, Pharah can FUCKING FLY...
All he has is that roll. Which doesn't even have i-frames. Which you want to save so you can cancel your horribly long reload for your only-six-shots pistol that has savage damage falloff.
If anything he could use a buff.
You are grossly overstating how long flashbang lasts. It lasts just a little longer than it takes you to fan.yackemflam wrote:Flashbang, fan, roll, fan

Re: Overwatch
McCree isn't all that bad. He rewards you a lot for being able to land headshots consistently at medium range and does have a better optimal range than most other attackers. Genji and Soldier outrange him obviously, but he has the flashbang combo which lets him instantly kill anyone from point blank or close range. The Flashbang is also one of the only non-ultimate on demand CCs in the game which can save teammates in quite a few situations.
The issue is people think McCree has a sniper rifle, and that he is supposed to be played as this stand off fighter, but that is Soldier's and Hanzo's job. Just because its very accurate at long ranges doesn't mean you should be trying to stay far away, but conversely just because its ranged poke damage is low doesn't mean it isn't one of the best options for long range poke on a non-sniper. If you are worried about a reaper pushing onto a point but have a Reinhartd who can block heavy ranged fire, McCree should consider his options and decide if he wants to play like Reaper or Tracer at that moment and flank around for point blank kills on respawning enemies, or if he wants to play more like Soldier or Genji and harass at range from the sidelines. Often times you will want to flank, even the long ranged offensive characters play better when not with the main force of the team, but having the option is nice.
