Mostly just a trial, to see what kind of revenue they can bring, I even have each on its own tag so i can track what ones bring what rev.

If there is enough demand for it, I'll figure a way to make them disablable per forum account.

They've been up for a while, I would have made a thread but I wanted to see how long it took somebody to notice. Generally most people who care already use adblock.

I decided to do the Right Thing™ and disable AB+ on here.

Praise me, for I have given you some pocket change maybe I'm not sure how much revenue ads generates per viewer.

Though, if I catch any sound ads it's going back on, as is my SoP.

I was fine with the ads up until they started appearing mid threads. Currently some ads will appear between individual posts.
I use adblock at home, but this has finally made me install adblock on my phone too.

To be fully honest I don't block ads so I can see the ones that are obviously related to some scam or other dodgy shit. Then I just sit there pleased with how much an unscrupulous apathetic dodgy individual the person running the adspace is.

I mean I got some "helpdesk support software" being advertised in this thread right now I sounds so legit I love it. "Try user friendly freshdesk(tm) In 2 minute you will set it up!"

adblock plus has been good lately out of box about detecting adblock detectors.

But don't worry, anti-adblock will not be something i'll resort to (even thou the ad impression rate is about 30%, meaning 70% of page views are adblocked). In fact, the only way I could justify this to myself is because of adblock. The way i figured it, if you aren't using adblock, You don't care about ads anywho.

you can get web adblock for both android and windows mobile.

As to the other big name smart phone company. If you are using a phone that is known to have limitations placed on what kind of apps can run on it, "for your safety"(and their wallets) and find yourself unable to block ads, well gee. wonder why....

All i'm asking is, if its easy enough to block, and those who choose not to block (like me on my work computer), it generates a small trickle of income for the server.

Also you literally have a advertisement banner for your website which you paid for on the home page. You're actually paying to be part of that "hassle". Unless its somehow different because it doesnt go through google?

Well I guess I don't see a reason why I should continue to contribute to the crowdfunding if I have to put up with ads anyways.
If you care about ads, at this point you already have adblock.

I find it funny how difference the ad quality is on certain pages.

Like here, this thread gets all the sleazy ads because we talked about them. but the index gets all the fancy ads, like denny's, ford, at&t, etc.

Really? I see em all the time when i surf mobile. Probably gonna put an adblock exception on the site too just so i can contribute a little until i have the money to help the patreon.



EDIT: Oh neato, i do all my research on this computer so my ads are about breakthoughs in protein stuff by thermoscientific. This is actually somewhat concerning, how do they mine this information?
