All it needs to do is say "the game is currently full, your position in queue is 9" then either place you into the game automatically or BWOINK you and make you pick an open position.

I don't frequent Basil for 2 major reasons.
Metastation doesn't work well with the low pops it generally has (Which is a self-serving problem, I'm aware)
And the rounds tend to last much longer when I just want to pull a 45-60 minute round
There's also the fact that I don't click well with those there, but that's a minor issue

I can understand a 70 player cap but 50 players is way too low, especially for friday/saturday night peak times. Imo not a smart decision to drive people to play on bagil, some people prefer the map/general atmosphere of sybil and /tg/ isn't yet in a place where we can afford to force players like that around.

This was put into place after server killing lag when we had a ~90 people connected or some nonsense. MSO said it was mostly all client lag, not server/game lag (though he later discovered someone had broken atmos or something in some recent update).
At least that's what I remember from the fragments of conversation that were spread out over asay and several IRC channels.
Found part of it, don't have an overwhelming desire to find asay stuff or coderbus stuff now so I'm hoping this at least explains it somewhat.

If the game really does crap out at 90 people, then put a cap on 85 people.
Currently there's around 55 job positions in the game, this 50 person cap means you cannot fill all the jobs on the station at all.

Basil basically isn't tg in how the rounds and community function so I don't think it's at all realistic to expect people to play there if/when Sybil is full

The hardcap is a horrible idea, both servers are played differently and while I love Basil server the Sybil server is fun for high pop action filled games. Trying to force people to other servers only makes both sides angry and does not solve population issues, it just makes it worse. People on Basil seem fine with low pop long rounds while Sybil likes high pop short rounds.
The population cap is just shooting yourselves in the foot, it only damages a community.

I don't like their map, or their regulars, Not that they're all bad, it's just I've had bad experiences with them during sybil outages. people instantly taking eachothers sides against you, OOC being eye rolling elitist jerks, It's just not for me, I'd just a soon not play there if I can help it.
Maybe if you stripped it's identity, because honestly those 20 people who really enjoy that comradery don't need to take up what is now being mandated as half the server population.
Fix the map, I'd say random rotation on both servers for consistency but you could just as easily just pick one and stick with it, and enforce meta-buddy policy equally there as it's enforced on sybil and then maybe it'll be an acceptable fix, because that's a real problem with the cliques on bagil, shit's like highschool all over again.

Hard cap at 65. This prevents joining the game, but you can observe.
Extreme cap at 70. This prevents connecting to the server. I put this in place after I watched the server buckle at 95 players. while basil had almost none. basil then got 10 new players. It was nice.
The thing is, outside of complaints about the map, every issue people have with basil can be solved by more people playing on basil.

We've had this debate before, ultimately the majority of players gravitate towards Sybil. For example whenever Sybil crashes Basil sees a small user increase until Sybil comes back, then everyone floods back to Sybil.
Whatever the reasoning is, people just don't want to play on Basil.

If these shitty hard caps are a must and obviously can't be fixed by unfucking whatever section of code fucked them up in the first place can we just open up Sybil 2, which like..runs boxstation and gives people that don't want to erp on basil a place to play?
