The problem here seems to be that you cremated the person instead of just killing them, which was overescalation and permanently removes them from the round with no chance to get cloned.

I agree with time gate on antagonist/ghost roles.
It isn't much but it can prevent someone completely clueless to fuck things up for you.

Just make it so that if they have lights on them or close by they won't get pulled away?
It could just be the closest light source, rather than the strongest: machines emit light, even if faint.
Plus, moths do tend to stumble around like drunks, it is fitting.
