Even if you assume ideal circumstances with dedicated appeal admins it would still be normal for the appeal to take more then a day to resolve. With a day ban you're basically appealing the ban note so it doesn't escalate into a stronger ban down the line.

peanuts happened in FNR even with people posting most of their peanut threads in the hut. Those threads weren't exclusively allowed in the hut, it was just the preferred place to put them due to low moderation. They could have been posted in off-topic like they are now.
